PROUD TO BE ASHAMED TO BE JEWISH

What would make the members of Jewish Voice for Peace and Bay Area Women in Black stand alongside protestors screaming for the extermination of Jews?

The answer is relatively simple: UncleTomism.

Here in the Bay Area Jew hatred is particularly virulent, and socially sanctioned. It is, for people who define themselves as 'liberal' but are incapable of thinking further than the label, extremely comfortable to censure Israel, and to progress from that censure to full-blown hate.
This tendency is supported by many progressives, and has a long history in the Bay Area. It is the acme of politically correct - even in a place where political correctness is a competitive sport.

This is by no means a development of recent weeks, but goes back years. And in many cases it is supported by officials, the intelligentsia, and academe (SFSU and UC Berkeley).

It is in such an atmosphere, where being Jewish or supporting Israel are considered major flaws in one's character, that many people whose connection to Judaism is both nominal and uncomfortable at best, eventually decide to assuage their friends, colleagues, and lovers, by being more anti-Jewish than the anti-Jews.
JVP, and Bay Area Women in Black, give them a convenient out - and allow them to fly interference for some of the really rabid Jew-haters, such as the mobs from International ANSWER and other branches of the peace-movement.
It is perhaps a tribute to the tolerance for which northern California is famous that even such fervent 'Jew-don't-wannabes' are welcome.
Ideology counts for much in Berkeley and San Francisco.

Please note that while I mention Bay Area Women in Black, not all of that group are actually self-hating Jews - many of them are Jew-hating Presbyterians and Episcopalians from churches in Berkeley and North-Oakland, and some of them (well, actually, only two of them) lonely old-style anarcho-syndicalists from a radical bookstore in San Francisco.
The San Francisco branch of Bay Area Women in Black consists mostly of dysfunctionals from QUIT (Queers Undermining Israeli Terror), rejectionists, wiccans, plus assorted fellow-travelers. Again, many of them are not Jewish either, or, at best, only Jews of convenience (whenever it is convenient for someone to say "I can't be anti-Semitic, some of my best friends are Jews" - presto, there they are).
Wanting to blame someone for your psychological problems (whining, in other words) is a powerful motivator. And, in the Bay Area, a holy war.

As I write this, I can hear the passing rabble yelling for Jewish blood on the street outside my office. Which is a distinctly San Francisco occurrence. They started at Powell and Market earlier today, they are finally here, heading toward the consulate. Arabic is a wonderful language. So evocative.

There are about thousand of them. Many are not Arabs.

5 Zionists.
One Thousand Haters nearly lynching the few pro-Israel, pro-peace activists.

Why does anyone think these are peace rallies? These rallies are about destruction of Israel and the destruction of the Jewish people.

Isn't it a little short sighted, being against the politics of the nowadays government to be anti Jewish.

And on a totally different note: I have met Death by Noodles now. And I have an impertinent questions. Is BOTH the medium-sized white boyfriend of Auntie Wah? Or is this simply coincidence?

Inquiring minds want to know.

All things considered, most any nation at the receiving end of large numbers of unguided missiles, suicide bombers, and assorted homicidal nutjobs will eventually respond (particular if it plans on surviving as a people or a nation-state), and if posessed of a modicum of sanity, respond rather vigorously to both halt the offensive activity and to deter any future resumption of such activity.

Israel has responded. It is to be hoped that they terminate their civilian disarmament efforts even as the IDF moves into the Gaza Territory.

Any nation whose defense forces launch a massive "call ahead" effort to their opponents notifying civilian (and by extension, hostile military forces) of potential targets and suggested evacuations cannot rationally be accused of a less than magnanimous approach to conducting war. When backed by air-dropped pamphlets (as is the case with the current IDF endeavor), it's reasonable to assume that the IDF is really going out of its' way to keep civilian noncombatant injuries to a minimum.

After all - if you get a phone call "we're probably bombing the crap out of your neighborhood next Wednesday" with a followup tickertape drop of "We're probably going to be bombing the crap out of your neighborhood next Wednesday" - it's pretty much on you if you're in the neighborhood next Wednesday and either acquire bad or lethal owies.

This is *particularly true* when the force providing the warnings is the IDF with a strong history of carrying through on its' promises.

Hamas has worked hard to create this confrontation, and if the Palestinian people wish it to end...disposing of Hamas would be a good first step.

Barring that, I have little or no issue with the IDF conducting a version of Shermans March Through Georgia in the Gaza under the IDF's current rules of engagement.

"I would make this war as severe as possible, and show no symptoms of tiring till the South begs for mercy." - Gen. William T. Sherman

I just received this email.
Can you believe they are planning on interrupting religious services?

No more demos. No more signs, chants, pithy t shirts. No more marches to nowhere. And DEFINITELY no more emails to Congress, or heart-felt messages to Change.Gov and Obama, begging the conspirators to stop the conspiracy. We each one of us is responsible - and we each one of us must take action. We cannot rely on Others to do it for us.

I have strongly suggested to many different so-called action groups, that we immediately institute a program of visits to every synagogue in the USA, on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings, and rise in each congregation and - in dignified firm and unemotional voices- repeat "STOP THE KILLING"-- We need to go in groups of 3-4, to insure that we have 1 person as a defensive shield, and one as a video camera witness, recording everything. Jews especially should be doing these actions. We will face harsh treatment, and possibly physical attack, but our message must be resolute and continue week after week.I see no possible legal impediment to this. The public, and certainly Jews- cannot be barred from entry to the services, and it will be extremely hard for the Synagogues to enforce exclusion. If they do, we can speak on the front steps, on the street, in the parking lot.The Jews of America must be confronted with their clear responsibility- far more than complicity-in the mass murders, occupation, and forced starvation of the people of Palestine. If any of you wants to work on this, just let me know.

Just a coincidence. Auntie Wah's family seem to know about her significant other, whereas Savage Kitten's family is entirely in the dark. And we're keeping it that way.

I'm not entirely sure how Death By Noodles discovered this blog. Could be via search criteria, could be because of a food interest - the first three comments she made had to do with food on 11/20/08.

E-kvetcher,

Thanks for the link to the Antwerp riot. I honestly do not know what the future of the Antwerper Jews is going to be - so close to Borgerhout, so far from Tzion... to paraphrase the famous statement about Mexico.

I like Belgium. Especially their food and drink. But as a society, they seem to be heading towards critical mass faster than the rest of Western Europe.
With more loons and extremes, too.
