A QUESTION FOR THE CLASS

Yekkish, or standard Ashkie? It must be asked, because it might determine whether he'll be acceptable at Breuers or must seek his tenship elsewhere, just to be less stand-outish.

QUOTE: ""Martin awoke one morning to find he’d turned into a giant Charatan Supreme."
Source: Pipepedia (alvagram)

QUOTE: "His family promptly sold him to a local smoker named Franz Kafka who first said a brucha before filling Martin’s wide expanse with Balkan Sobranie and lighting up. Martin felt aglow with an inner warmth he’d never experienced. “Smoke me, Baby!” Martin exclaimed. “But of course, old chap,” Franz muttered between puffs."

That brocha...., standard Ashky or a Yekkish pronunciation? I think it must be Yekkish, because three of the four gentlemen involved (Martin, Franz, and myself) are conversant in German, whereas Frederick Charatan, the pipe manufacturer, was a Russian, and would likely have adhered to Ashkenazic trop, more so because of the make-up of the London community.

Conceivably Litvish.

One wonders of course about the brocha. How was it phrased?

Baruch atta Adonoi Eloheinu melech ha olam shelo chisar b'olamo klum u vara vo b'riyos tovos v'elanos tovim l'hanos bahem b'nei Adam.

The problem is that that is for fruit trees in bloom, during the month of Nissan.

It would be a stretch to argue that Erica Arborea is such.

Despite the elegant fruit-resembling products.

Charatan made few if any apples.
