SHEIKH KALBANI AND THE SHIA

Recently an internet acquaintance forwarded an image for consideration, which he believed showed the depravity of Muslims. What it actually showed was a talent for cut-and-paste, coupled with meanspiritedness.
As well as the credulity of many Islam-hating Westerners, who, it turns out, are quite incapable of rational thought, critical review, or sourcing their damned tropes and memes.

TEXT:

"Saudi Prince Abou Lbarae Kahtani, 51 years old, and and his new bride Hind Nawaf, 6 years old, exchanged vows in Saudi Arabia last week. Reports say it was a beautiful ceremony.

In completely unrelated news, Saudi Arabia was elected the Chair of the United Nations Human Right Council in September."

[END CITE]

Your bullshit-sensors should immediately go up for two reasons. Firstly, the weird spelling of what is alleged to be the gentleman's name -- possibly 'Abu Al Bara'a Qahtani', which translates as "servant of the innocent", or alternatively "servant of innocence", "servant of the paradigm of innocence", with the surname "Qahtani" -- and secondly because of tits on what is claimed to be a small child.

Look closely at that photo.

Yes, she is petite and girlish. But that is NOT a six year old girl, not even a pinheaded one. The proportions are all wrong, and furthermore, she has a very distinct bosom.

Repeat: not a six year old.

THE FACTS

Indeed, Saudi Arabia did get elected to the human rights council. Further search shows that the only other part of that "reportage" which is true is that the man is Saudi. Specifically, he is Sheikh Adel Al Kalbani, imam of the al Haram mosque in Mecca.
The picture of the girl originally shows up on Persian language sites, the combination of those two images first gained wide circulation on Iranian and pro-Kurdish social media.
The whole thing is no more than Shia propaganda against the Sunnis, which has since been provided with an English text and forwarded by every Islam-hating crap-site between here and Muscovy. Nearly every page on which it appears is filled with racism, lies, propaganda, balderdash, and un-sourced material.

Sheikh Kalbani is relatively liberal, but he did state that the Shiites are apostates, and hence not qualified to be considered ulema (pl. of alim, meaning religious scholars) (see this article: Saudi Shiites call for Sheikh Kalbani dismissal). It is this which appears to have fuelled an internet slander-campaign against him, starting six years ago.

"The Ulema of the Shi‘as are “kuffar” ..... and they should not be included in the Supreme Council of Ulema (of Saudi Arabia)"

Here's an interesting article about one his fatwas: http://www.ummah.com/forum/showthread.php?264240-Shaikh-Adel-Al-Kalbani-Islam-does-not-forbid-singing-and-music.

Also see this article:
Scholars divided over imam's fatwa on music.

A NOTED HAFIZ

Sheikh Adel Al Kalbani is well-known for his recitation (qira'at) of Koranic passages in a resonant voice with clear and precise pronunciation, many of which can be enjoyed on youtube, such as this one: Sūrat al-Jāthiyah. The text, in translation, can be found here: The Crouching.

To quote from that surah, "woe to every sinful liar".

Seems apposite, does it not?

[FYI: Sheikh Adel Ibn Salim Ibn Saïd Al Kalbani has a website: alkabani.com.sa.]

Hi blogger,

I don't know much about Saudi Arabia, but I came across your blog because it's a smoking blog. See, I've got to do a project about smoking, for my health class, in High School. But nobody smokes in my neighborhood; I've never mest a real-life smoker in my life, and I don't think I've even seen anyone smoking more than maybe three or four times in my life, when my family went on vacation.

Your blog is really da bomb, really kicks ass, lol. You really know your tobaccos. Can you answer some questions, that I haven't been able to find on statistics and health websites?

(1) How long does it take to smoke a cigarette? A cigarillo? A cigar? A pipe? (2) How many of these is it possible to smoke in an hour? When you're done with, say, one cigarette or one cigar, can you immediately start up with another one, and another one, or would you get sick? (3) Can it take different amounts of time, depending on how quickly and how hard one is smoking? What would be the difference, in terms of actions?

Thx so much! Hugs!

I enjoyed your take on this. When a not skeptical enough friend shared this this link, I found your blog in my attempt to satisfy my bullshit sensors. I too became suspicious of a purported 6 year old with tits. The dude's name was also hokey to me, not to mention the whole absurdity of the main idea of the thing. Thanks, Brian
