HURRY UP EVENING

Just for the heck of it, here’s a classic number by Papa Touwtjie. It seems perfect for a Saturday evening in San Francisco.

Papa Touwtjie (Johan Touwslager) was shot in 2005 in Paramaribo by one of his brothers during a family quarrel. He was only thirty five years old.
The artist is gone, the music lives on.

I’m heading out to the cigar bar for some quiet time now.
You should probably explore the oeuvre of Papa Touwtjie and the many other Surinamese musicians on youtube for the rest of the evening. Check back here later and tell me what you think.
Don’t worry if you don’t understand the language they sing in, as there are several, some of them so upriver that less than a few thousand people speak them.
