If the lesson of the Shalit deal for the Palestinians is that the language of force works, then that must also be the lesson for Israel.
Force works.
It's the one thing that both Hamas and the PLO can agree on.
Negotiating with the Palestinians is pointless. Negotiation has been going on since Oslo, and has yielded little more than further violence, and insulting excuses for that violence from the Europeans and the third-world gangsters of the United Nations.
"Oh those poor Palestinians, it is because they are UNFULFILLED that they have no choice but to try and kill as many Israelis as possible. Surely you understand that?"
The Palestinian national movement has an unbroken history of despicable acts against Jews, against Christians, and against Muslims.
It was too much to hope for that they would change if they were given a chance.
They've had that chance, they've had innumerable chances, for nearly two decades.
What they've done with the opportunity presented them by the Oslo Accords is kill and maim more Israelis than they had succeeded in doing in the preceding twenty years.
The Palestinian national movement is, and always has been, morally bankrupt.
END THE OCCUPATION!
That the PLO is still operational is due to the idiocy of hopeful people outside of the Holy Land, as well as the despicable opportunism of certain countries that for politics sake play with human lives.
Most of Europe. Almost all the Arab countries. The East-bloc, the communist world, and many of the rinky-tink banana republics in Latin America and Africa.
As well as many befuddled Christians in the United States.
It is an intolerable cruelty to put any member of the PLO in a position of authority over the Palestinians, and more than anything else it perpetuates Arab upon Arab violence, political terror, and corruption.
Why anyone thought it would be any different, given what Arafat and his murderers had done in Jordan and Lebanon, is an utter mystery.
Enabling that man, and the Tunis gang, to enrich themselves while running roughshod over the hopes and aspirations of their people, must certainly qualify as one of the greatest crimes against humanity. That the Europeans and Americans funded (and continue to fund) the mafia syndicate that tyrannizes the populations of the camps and the territory gained in 1967 is a black mark that surely must sicken every civilized human being.
And that the Arab world cynically continues to pay lip-service to Abbas and the PA's bluster, lends moral support to PLO thuggery, and denies the Palestinians any other future than more of the same, dishonours the Arabs far more than any of their other shameful acts.
It is no wonder Palestinian society is so dysfunctional, and hardly surprising that they venerate psychopaths.
With the encouragement of their fellow Arabs, they've cultivated brutism, irrationality, and destructiveness for over sixty years
It is time to break off all negotiations.
No peace is possible with the heirs of Yassir Arafat.

MAHMOUD MABHOUH AND BRITISH PASSPORTS
Seventeen years ago a coworker was held at Kennedy Airport because he had a multiplicity of passports. By himself alone, he represented a microcosm of Europe: Germany, France, and England were represented among his official documents - England in fact several times.
When we heard about it, we had to smile. It was so typical of him.
Sikhs have a brashness and chutzpa-ish self-assurance that often leads to outrageous flouting of rules, and here in San Francisco we are very used to fake papers. Heck, most of the young Euro-trash infesting cheap lodgings here make darn sure that they have identification documents showing assumed names and ages, because they do not wish to get in trouble with the authorities when they break the law (as they do at the drop of the hat - "Yankee rules are NOT for us civilized people!"), and they keenly wish to drink themselves silly like they do in Europe ("I shall repeat: Yankee rules are NOT for us civilized people!").
It is axiomatic that one out of two Europeans in San Francisco engages in underage drinking, law breaking, and sexual harassment of local women.
For all such pursuits, possession of fake identification is 'le must'.

He does overlook one key thing in respect to the death of mister Mabhouh, and the door to mister Mabhouh's hotel room being locked from the inside with a safety chain in place.
That is the very distinct possibility that mister Mabhouh was killed by a local whore in Dubai. Of which there are several thousand who cater specifically to the hotel trade.
Dubai, as is well known, is a haven of enlightened attitudes in an otherwise depressingly repressive region. Many Arabs from conservative Saudi Arabia and elsewhere flock to Dubai for the opportunity to engage in 'romance', purchase designer goods, and get right royally blasted on liquor. Dubai is better than Paris in that regard, as there is far less snootiness, and far better even than Beirut, due to the smorgasbord of European and Asian hookers available to the well-connected.
Especially in the luxury hotels for which Dubai is so justly famous.
I cannot discount the distinct possibility that mister Mabhouh was engaged in something deliciously degenerate. In fact, if any of the Arabs whom I know personally is anything to go by, it is almost guaranteed that he 'rampaged' like a stallion while in Dubai.

One might counter that there is no reason to assume the worst of the man, and that all this is mere speculation. But that would overlook his history as a murderer, strong-arm goon, sadist, criminal, and weapons smuggler. Mahmoud al-Mabhouh was a thug. Who knows what such a person could have been involved in?
Or how twisted and dysfunctional his personal life was?
Additionally, there are others who may have benefitted from his timely demise.

RIVALS FOR THE RANK OF CLASS SLUT
A while back I left a comment on Treppenwitz's blog. Now, that isn't unusual, as I am a talkative and opinionated person. But here it is, several day later, and not only do I still agree with myself (mirabile dictu!), I actually think that said comment perfectly expresses my point of view.
And that IS unusual - it's a different day of the week, and a different time of day, so my levels of stress, caffeine, aesthetic frustration, and emotional disbalance are entirely different(*). That normally affects thinking.
[* but piss and vinegar remain constant, however.]
Treppenwitz had opined that Israel was the Class Slut of the international community. Everyone wants what Israel has to offer, but no one wants to be seen with her.
I beg to differ.
The United States is the Class Slut, Israel is merely the class tramp.
We're number one. So to speak.
Especially in Europe.
The European governments have NO problem with their people slamming the US as a bunch of arrivista whores, inbreds, vulgarians, closet fascist-imperialists, overweight criminals and sexfiend puritans; heck, we’re one big blemish on civilization and if it weren’t for us and our corrupt venal leaders (and our daemonic military), the rest of the world could go about the peaceful business of building happy proletarian pigsties and communes, and dancing their colourful native dances in tune with mother nature and the elements.
But the Eurie governments, despite their peoples’ clear distaste (loathing, repulsion, horrified nausea) just keep quietly working with us, buying our weapons, investing in our industries, bribing our officials, pet warlords, and clients, and forwarding intelligence, while transporting innocent Arab detainees to overseas CIA torture dens.
Heck, NATO is the biggest "secret" around. Membership allows a whole bunch of rinky-tink European liberal democracies to do jacksh*t about their own security, while silently relying on the big bad US, and publicly disdaining us and lamenting that that bunch of filthy transportees ever became independent.
Oh, and please remember, everything we did in WWI and since can be entirely discounted – because it was to our benefit, and NOT because we honestly worshipped Europe.
Israel, without the United States, would no doubt also be better. Leastways a neo-socialist workers paradise that would just have to get along with the hardworking aborigines, both peoples exchanging artistic trinkets and hummus recipes instead of barbs and (US-sponsored) bombs.

WORLD FILLED WITH PUS
We Americans have a reputation for not speaking any other languages than our own. Aside from the sheer oddness of that idea - in addition to English very many other languages are spoken here - what that often means is that foreigners often think that whatever they say in their own languages will never be understood by Americans.
It's assumed to be a private conversation with no Yankee dogs listening in.
[All the languages in the world are spoken in the United States. Among my friends and acquaintances here in San Francisco are speakers of Afrikaans, Arabic (Cairene, Hijazi, Levantine, Maghrebi, and Yemeni), Armenian, Bengali, Berber, Bikolano, Burmese, Cantonese, Caviteno, Cebuano, Chabacano, Danish, Deng, Dutch, Flemish, French, German, Gujarati, Hakka, Hausa, Hawaiian, Hebrew, Hindi, Hmong, Igorot, Ilocano, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Kapampangan, Korean, Lao, Mandarin, Marathi, Meo ('Miao'), Min, Mixtec, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Quechua, Russian, Sicilian, Shanghainese, Spanish, Sundanese, Swedish, Tagalog, Tamil, Tausug, Teochew, Thai, Vietnamese, Waray, Yiddish, Yoruban, Yucatec. It doesn't really matter what he was commenting on, the point is that based on one news item he opportunistically slandered three hundred million people, indicating that he loathes all of us. Which is not at all unusual. Under any Dutch article and on any Dutch website that mentions America there will be a surfeit of anti-American comments. Many Dutch do hate and despise us, and will take any chance to make that clear to their fellow Dutchmen.
The Dutch aren't strange in that regard.
The same sentiment thrives underneath articles and on web fora in German, French, Italian, and the Scandinavian tongues........
I sincerely hope that Gert in Hilversum dies painfully of the pox. Considering the sexual smorgasbord which is metropolitan Holland, that is very likely. But it cannot happen soon enough.
I wish similar fates on many other Dutch people, a very large number of Frenchman, Arabs, Germans, Italians, Poles, Pakistanis, Russians, Englishmen, Swedes........
Actually, much of Europe and most of the Islamic world.
If there ever is another World War (in other words, a war that starts in Europe and is fought mainly in Europe) we should stay the hell out.
Let those bastards kill each other. It's what they're good at.
Same goes for the Muslims. The Persians and Iraqis killed millions between themselves - a good beginning. The Egyptian military gassed Yemeni highlanders - splendid. CLUELESS IN HOLLAND
Made the mistake of reading De Telegraaf during lunch - as usual, agida was the result.
An article mentioned an American Schoolteacher who was sentenced to twenty years for having sex with a thirteen year old boy.

The key fact of the matter is that she molested a minor, and one who was her responsibility, nota bene. Irrespective of gender, that must be considered abuse of power and authority, in addition to child-rape.
It is quite clear-cut.
Of course, the Dutch, who know all there is to know about sexual abuse, do not see it that way. Well over half of the 155 comments underneath the article praise the woman and damn the country that sentenced her for raping a child - which in the eyes of over half of the commenters is only a minor matter, scarce deserving any punishment at all.
The United States, in their words, is a frightful puritan hell hole, and responsible for ninety percent of all misery in the world today.
We are the armpit of the planet, and pustulence personified.
And they feel good about saying that.
Many of the commenters feel that any punishment of the teacher for having an affair with a student is utterly ridiculous, and the severity of the punishment is beyond all reason.
Apparently it betrays our hypocrisy and a demented value system, we're a disgusting and appalling nation of pornographers and violent criminals, totally backward, unadvanced, retrograde, and uncivilized.
A fair number of the writers also laud the woman, and consider her a hero - both praiseworthy and commendable.
I have in the past rather indicated my feelings about the Dutch and their sexual predilections.......

But the bright side is that NOT ALL COMMENTERS underneath the article in De Telegraaf condemn us; several of the readers understand that a teacher abusing a position of power and authority is reprehensible. They also grasp that a mere slap on the wrist combined with community service, such as is common in the Netherlands for indecent acts with a minor, do not even begin to address the issue. Many even observed that the gender of the victim and the gender of the perpetrator are immaterial - if it should not happen to a thirteen year old girl, it should also not be done to a thirteen year old boy.
So while I would recommend not allowing any Europeans, especially the Dutch, anywhere near your children, I am pleased to report that they are not all utter degenerates. Not all of them.
There is an intelligent and civilized minority that has to put up with their countrymen and maintain their reason despite such dysfunctional neighbors.
That they manage to do so at all is commendable, that many of them do it so well is miraculous.

What makes their task much more difficult than it should be is the incredibly light sentencing customary in the Netherlands for sex-crimes, even violent ones and repeat-offenses. Most sex-crimes in the Netherlands go unpursued, unprosecuted, and unpunished.]
If you are a young woman, it is probably not advisable to visit the Netherlands until they have changed their sexual dialectic. Or if you do, avoid drinking in bars at the very least, in order to avoid date-rape drugs.
But the same can be said for much of Europe, as well as parts of England, Mississippi, Georgia, and the third world.

BAY AREA PEACE-ACTIVISTS SUPPORT 'RESISTANCE'
As is made clear by their websites, their literature and signs in several protests, and their rhetoric, such Bay Area groups as International ANSWER, the ISM, Students for Justice in Palestine, Bay Area Women in Black, Jewish Voice for Peace, and even members of Code Pink support Hamas.
One of the tropes of the groups listed above is that Hamas represents legitimate popular apirations. The ISM even goes so far as to organize aid to Gaza for that reason.
In this endeavor they are ably assisted by such estimable people as British Member of Parliament George Galloway, whose monetary donations to Hamas have encouraged the "Islamic Resistance", and empowers them to continue their 'struggle'.
Many European socialist parties and politicians also wholeheartedly support Hamas and have contributed significantly to such efforts.
Hamas, of course, knows how to win the loyalty not only of American and European fans, but also how to gain the love of the citizens of Gaza.
Let me quote Yassir Abed Rabo on that score:
"Today, Hamas gangs are unleashed like packs of animals on the streets of Gaza against Fatah members. Because the military bases and the prisons have been destroyed, they have turned Gaza schools, Al-Nasser Hospital, the radiology department at Shifa' Hospital, Al-Aqsa University, and other places, including mosques, into centers for the detention, interrogation, and torture of Fatah members and members of other national Palestinian factions."
"Dozens of people have been shot in the leg, been beaten savagely, and had their bones broken, because they are members of the Fatah movement."

But the other side can also be accused of not playing entirely by accepted rules. That accusation has been made at lenght, by people who are righteously indignant over the trampling of human rights and the denial of a political voice to the oppressed.

EUROPEAN SEXUAL DEGENERACY
One of the things which upsets European visitors to San Francisco is the rather paltry and haphazard prostitution here. Apparently there are so few opportunities for abusing the fairer sex that, somehow, we seem less of a city. Not at all world-class.
I was of course flabbergasted when I first heard this, as I had always assumed that we had a lively grown-up sex trade, and more than adequately catered to the depraved whims of our visitors. But no. Several Germans and Englishmen, as well as two drunken Dutchmen, have complained bitterly about the lack of by-the-hour opportunities.
We are totally inadequate, in their estimation.
HUMAN TRAFFICKING
In a way this is understandable. Nearly half of all women trafficked worldwide end up in Western Europe, many in establishments in Germany, Holland, and England. Over two hundred thousand Eastern European girls are sold to houses in western Europe every year. Places like Moldova and Macedonia are central to this trade in teenage female flesh, with the smuggling route often going overland through various Slavic and Germanic territories - to the immense profit of officials, it must be added. But Asian and African women are simply flown in on spurious visas, thus enormously benefiting the consular services of the destination countries.
Many Western European young men are accustomed to cap off a night of binge-drinking by brutalizing a third-world woman. Sometimes the entire group happily heads out to the red-light district. It's a bonding experience, much like Berkeley frat-boys heaving up their guts in the Tenderloin.
Anyone wishing to study the world's languages need only spend a few hours in the red light districts of Hamburg, Rotterdam, and London, to get plenty of gritty real-life linguistic exposure. Rotterdam of course dwarfs the other two cities in that regard, and the Dutch are talented linguists in addition to being central to the European sex slave trade. Other important players are the Turks, Yugoslavs, and Italians - but for sheer bold enterprise and chutzpah the Dutch take the cake, having set up brokerages in many third-world countries, even going so far as to recruit Philippinas in the Persian Gulf who wish to escape their brutal Arab employers.
All of this benefits huge numbers of Netherlandish, Belgian, German, and British men, whose tastes and preferences preclude normal relationships.

GEERT WILDERS KEPT OUT OF ENGLAND
The British campaign against freedom of speech and secular humanism gathers steam, and Britain appears to be heading into the grey zone of civilization. No longer a bastion of civil liberties, or even democratic ideals, Britain seems destined for a shadowy half-life of quivering and abject 1984ism.
WILDERS DENIED ENTRY TO BRITAIN
Anti-Islam campaigner and MP Geert Wilders arrived at London’s Heathrow airport on Thursday afternoon but was denied entry into the UK, the Telegraaf reports on its website. The paper says Wilders was escorted to a private room where immigration authority officials told him he would not be allowed into the country and would be deported within a few hours. Pim Waldeck, the Dutch ambassador to Britain, was on hand at Heathrow to offer assistance.

On Monday it emerged that Britain had banned Wilders from the country because his presence could lead to public disorder and because of his extremist views.

Wilders had been invited to attend a screening of his 15-minute film compilation, which equates Islam with terrorism, at the upper house of parliament in London.

BRITISH QUISLINGISM
The British government has taken the extraordinary step of caving in, without a whimper, to fists being shaken impotently at them by angry illiterates.

Perhaps the British are unaware that it is already too late to stop those who want to "spread extremism, hatred and violent messages" from entering - a Google search on the term 'Finsbury Mosque' will yield some surprising results. One might also want to question why so many hate-filled Islamic radicals and their preachers live in Britain. And, having established that Britain has become a hotbed for the dissemination of Jihadi ideologies, one could then very well ask the British government what the devil they mean by banning an elected politician, whose views they obviously fail to have researched in any meaningful way, from traveling across the channel - at the invite, nota bene, of one of their own parliamentarians.
One might also question whether Lord Ahmed, one of the ringleaders in this shameful circus, should ever be allowed outside the UK - as a provocateur and whore to Islamic extremists (that being a large segment of the British Labour Party, one might add), no useful purpose can be served by allowing such an unprincipled man access to either the continent or to North America.

HAMAS DISTRIBUTES BLANKETS AND FOOD
On Tuesday evening Hamas police raided a United Nations warehouse in Gaza and seized thousands of blankets and foodparcels. This was under orders from Hamas leadership, which justified the action by stating that the UN intended to distribute the material randomly without taking into consideration that some of the recipients would be opponents of Hamas.
In the context of Gaza, that means secularists, gays, Christians, and members of Fatah.
All of whom deserve to have their knees broken.

Christopher Gunness, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency Spokesman who made the base accusation, should be dismissed forthwith. In the interests of fairness. He is unsuited to the job. It is obvious that neither he nor his agency can be relied on to be fair and equitable as regards distributing blankets and food to the truly deserving.
This blog joins the good activists of Western Europe, the Muslim World, and Berkeley, in expressing shock and outrage at the clear and evident bias of the United Nations.
We are truly horrified.

RIOTING IN HOLLAND
Much commentary in Dutch about the Gaza situation reflects two venomous hatreds. The smaller one is anti-Semitism, the more prevalent and dominant one is Xenophobia (particularly aimed at Muslim immigrants). In actuality, these are merely 'two hands on the same stomach'.
Many Dutch cleverly combine both hatreds.
And the Dutch, as we now know, are not inclined to be humble about strongly held opinions.
The worst rhetorical tendencies in Dutch are now obscenely on display, the Dutch are exhibiting their usually soft-voiced talent for vile dialectic at full volume, cacophonous and nauseating.
I am fairly disgusted with my fellow-Dutchspeakers at present.

A noteworthy exception is Rotterdam burgomaster Ahmed Aboutaleb, who firmly let it be known that phrases like "hamas hamas all joden aan het gas" ('Hamas Hamas all Jews to the gas'), "falastin baladna wa'l Yahud kilabna" ('Palestine is our land and the Jews are our dogs'), "itbach al Yahud" ('massacre the Jews'), and "al mawt al Yahud" ('death to the Jews'), are utterly unacceptable, and will lead to arrests and prosecution.

What you see in the videos of the demonstrations in the Netherlands are a few thousand people, fully half of whom are 'autochtoon' (native Dutch). The Rotterdam riot videos show a slightly greater number of people than Amsterdam or Utrecht, with a slightly greater proportion of allochthonous background.
That accounts for maybe about ten or twenty thousand angry Muslims, all told. Probably less, as the same people have taken part in several demonstrations.
What you do NOT see are the majority of Islamic-Dutch, but the rowdy problem cases. What you see are not the quiet shopkeepers, businessmen, or labourers, but the failures to assimilate. These are the people who are marooned between two societies, who do not even fit into their own ethnicity, and have no hope of ever blending into the mainstream.
As with all ethnicities, the problem cases tend to confirm to stereotypes.
The majority of every ethnic group are usually invisible. By assimilating, they fade into the background. It is only when members of a group misbehave that their ethnicity or affiliation becomes an issue.
The anti-Israel riots in places like London, Rotterdam, Stockholm, Antwerp - all seem to have rigidified ethnic/cultural hatreds. Precisely the same animosity as marked European society when the only groups to hate were Jews, Gypsies, and Lombards.
Europe has not changed much. But it has learned to share its hatred.

DUTCH HAMAS MEMBERS
Oh dear. I appear to have upset several hundred Dutch people. And many of them are now hopping mad.
Yesterday I had the temerity to post the names of notable Dutch Hamas Supporters, with the suggestion that they be put on a no-fly list - we Americans, certainly, do not need any of the people I listed visiting us anytime soon, and it would be just as well if they were never allowed out of Europe again.

In addition to the Palestinian flag there were also numerous Hamas and Hezbollah banners - it will be remembered, of course, that monetary support for terrorist organizations comes from many residents of Europe.]

It is the considered opinion of many that the entire SP leadership constitute a Hamas cell, and must be considered more than merely misguided.
And additionally, that International Socialism and National Socialism are in many ways the same.
Many readers also averred that Harry van Bommel is a notorious billenknijper.
I shall have to take their word for it - I am entirely unfamiliar with Harry van Bommel's sexual escapades, or his unsubtle approach to flirting. If you, my dear Dutch readers, wish to provide photographic or journalistic evidence of mr. Harry van Bommel performing the knyp on various billen, I shall be happy to peruse it. It is the considered opinion of many that the entire SP leadership constitute a Hamas cell, and must be considered more than merely misguided.
And additionally, that International Socialism and National Socialism are in many ways the same.

DENMARK NOT SAFE FOR JEWS?
I don't know what is more disturbing - that the Danes are powerless against thuggism, or that Danish educators see no problem with banning Jews for reasons of safety.

DAMNING ISRAEL
Reading the Dutch, German, French, and English news sites and forums today highlighted three tendencies regarding reactions and thoughts about Israel's action in Gaza. These tendencies already existed, of course, but have been more sharply drawn in the last seventy-two plus hours.
The Pro-Israel no-matter-what tendency
The writer damns all Muslims, Palestinians, Socialists, and self-hating Europeans, while lauding the actions of Israel in Gaza.
This is distinctly a minority point of view.
The Nuanced Point of View
This person tends to understand that Hamas broke their own ceasefire, has sworn to destroy Israel, and provoked the conflict by firing off over two hundred rockets towards Israeli towns. Nevertheless, civilian deaths are lamented, and question are raised. The writer is not comfortable with adding to the misery of the average Arab.
This too is a minority point of view.
The angry Anti-Israel Opinion
These writers thoroughly condemn everything that Israel does, lament the misery of Palestinian existence, curse their own governments for doing nothing, and fervently wish ill upon Israel, the Jews, and anybody who takes the side of either Israel or the Jews. Many of these writers are anti-Semitic, but assert that being anti-Israel is not actual hatred. They are not overt bigots, as they (mostly) stay within the bounds of acceptable 'progressive' discourse.
This is the overwhelming majority point of view.
Digesting it all
What became apparent, reading the various sites, is just how much Israel is hated. To a certain extent, I can understand Arab hatred of Jews and Israel - Arabs hate everything and everybody. It seems to be part and parcel of their culture. They've killed over seven million of their own in the last sixty years, and almost instinctively speak ill of each other or sabotage their own causes.
I expect no better from that side. And I'll admit it, I am probably a racist because I expect nothing else from them. For which I apologize - I honestly cannot hold them to the same high standard as the civilized world. I am a realist.
I can also understand European hatred of Jews and Israel. After all, to many Europeans, the very survival of Jews proves them wrong. Their attempts to exterminate the Jews did not succeed, their attempts to force them to convert en-masse to Christianity or Communism failed. There are still Jews. It must be keenly disappointing to have those people still around as a reminder of the failure of European society.
Life would be so much simpler for both the Arabs and the Europeans, if there were no Jews. The Arabs could slowly destroy European society, the Europeans could profit enormously from whoring to the Arabs in the meantime. Benefit to both sides.
The Jews, especially in the shape of Israel, are the fly in the ointment. And so Israel taking action against Hamas, is of course, an affront to both many Europeans and to Arabs.
Which must be thoroughly condemned.
What I have never understood is why parts of America, in particular Northern California, are so filled with Jew-hatred. Places such as San Francisco State University and the University of California at Berkeley. Heck, I cannot fathom why Berkeley is the most Jew-hating city in all of California. It would appear that our universities inculcate a very European attitude, and deliberately undermine our society's values.
I fully expect the next domestic terrorist movement to originate in academe.
AFTERTHOUGHT
I find myself in-between the first and second tendencies. I recognize that Israel had to act, I find what they are engaged upon justified, and I applaud their successes. Granted, as a society, Israel is by no means perfect. And ideally it should be possible for any society to speak for all of its members. But in the real world, societies are not always capable of giving all goals and values equal importance. To Israel's credit, she tries. And often succeeds in advancing the interests of a large majority of her citizens. Israel does so as the only democratic state in that area, and the only liberal humanist society in the Middle-East.
That, unfortunately, is something that not a single one of the Arab states have ever done, and also something which almost none of the Arab states can even lay claim to ever trying.
The one great contribution to our vocabulary from the Arabs in modern times has been 'mukhabarat' - a term for a secret police that functions with extraordinary brutality. It is the one constant shared by all Arab states, and frequently the only efficient department in an Arab government.

HOT EUROPEAN LOVE
Regular visitors of this blog are undoubtedly aware that I read the news on the internet, as well as several forums and blogs. As such, they are likely also aware that I have seen a lot of criticism of the United States - especially since our rather heavy-handed approach to getting back at the Arabs for bringing their style of political discourse to our shores.
Much of that criticism is valid, most of it isn't.
We aren't as bad as you say we are, and you lot shouldn't talk in any case.
You are often a lot worse than us.
Let's first take a look at the country where I spent much of my youth until returning to the United States in 1978. It is only proper that I describe that place ahead of the others.
THE NETHERLANDS
Open prostitution and drug-use in the streets, rampaging soccer hooligans, and recidivist perverts released back into society at the drop of a hat, this overcrowded rubbish dump is probably one of the worst pretenses at a civilized society ever. Racism festers underneath the surface here, as well as overweening arrogance. These people should learn to keep their gobs shut about other countries, lest the world start paying attention to the sexual enslavement of third-worlders in their cities, and the endemic problems of teenage prostitution, bondage-deaths, and child-molestation. The Netherlands is the sex-traffic capitol of Europe, but even that cannot make up for a lack of a cuisine.
Shut up you smarmy pissants, and learn to bathe regularly - you smell of rotten fish.
Now let's do Europe alphabetically.
BELGIUM
What an utter failure of a country!
The only thing they have going for them is that they are good cooks, brewers, and chocolatiers. But besides that, bigots, racists, and sexual deviants. The Walloons are too lazy to work or learn another language, and the Flemish too hate-filled and narrow-minded to accomplish jack all other than the occasional beating death of a foreigner or brutal gang rape of a half-wit. This country is not an ideal model of a pluralist society, and will probably devolve into civil war and ethnic cleansing within the next year or two.
A dreckheap inhabited by drunken perverts.
ENGLAND
What can one say about a place where the tea is strong and the beer unpleasant? Other than that one is baffled by the sheer numbers of sodding drunken Englishmen, Dutchmen, Irishmen, and Pakis all over the place? Perhaps they don't drink the tea.
Louts with bad-teeth, arrogant socialists, and snooty conservatives. Sounds like parts of San Francisco, but on a much larger scale, and with less oral hygiene.
FRANCE
Alas, a byword for lack of hygiene, and public intoxication. How French-girls ever got the reputation for sexiness among other Europeans is beyond me - unless it is because of their legendary lack of morals, which would explain why venereal disease is both endemic on the continent, and universally credited to the French.
Several smelly fromages make this country their home, and are indistinguishable from the ambulatory natives. Their wine is not good enough to make the smelliness of this place worthwhile. They do have good soap, however. How odd that they do not use it.
They smell, did I already mention that? Badly.
French men are lousy in bed. That may explain why their women sleep with strangers.
GERMANY
Stodgy troglodytes and elegant perverts cannot hide the essential depravity of this nation. Nor can leaden wurst and a lack of humour distract from it. The only time a heterosexual German is a snappy dresser is when he's occupying Poland.
They themselves acknowledge that there is nothing worth seeing or doing in their ghastly country, that's why they built the famous autobahns - so that you can get through it fast without having to eat the horrid food or congress the nasty natives.
GREECE
Having spent five centuries under the Ottoman thumb, you'd think that they had enough of Frenching the Muslims. Oddly, that does not seem the case. Greece has been the leaky sieve of Nato for decades, and deliberately fails at airport security and counter-terrorism. Long the home of degeneracy and sexual deviants, Greece is now bucking for bottom in a relationship with the Muslims.
Their food is indigestible, and their wine is horrid.
IRELAND
Nasty weather, worse natives. They can boast of introducing cannibalism and lycanthropy to the rest of Europe. Mildew and crotch-rot are synonyms in this miserable armpit of a place.
ITALY
Birth-place of Fascism, pasta, and rude opera audiences, this country would be bearable if it weren't filled with Northern Europeans bellyaching about the food. Just eat the garlic and shut up, you pale foreign sods!
PORTUGAL
A pestilential place with a long history of brutal colonialism, failed cuisine, and ugly inbred natives. Rape is the national sport.
RUSSIA
Hairy drunks. Vladimir Nabokov used to live here. He left.
There have been four generations of hairy drunks since then, almost no other accomplishments.
Except for Chechnya.
SPAIN
Like Italy, except without a shred of class whatsoever. Before soccer, the natives delighted in watching bullfights and executions of communists. Before that, they took pleasure in brutality and sadism in the various colonies they sucked dry and gave syphilis to. Since the death of Franco, they merely give venereal diseases to their mothers - except during the tourist season, when all of Northern Europe comes to visit, and acquires tans, diarrhea, and the clap. Avoid it like the plague - it is filled with illiterates.
There are a few other countries in Europe. I have not mentioned them, as I have no problem with Swiss chocolate, Danish butter, Austrian governors, or Viking helmets.
All in all, these are good things.

ENKELE GEDACHTEN OVER AMERIKA EN DE REST VAN DE WERELD
Men heeft wel eens gezegd dat Amerikanen niet bepaald veel talent hebben wat diplomatie betreft. Onze relatie met de Europeanen bewijst dat wel - met elk jaar dat voorbij gaat zijn de Europeanen minder te spreken over ons dan voorheen.
De transatlantieke bondgenootschap bestaat nog maar nauwelijks, Europa is ons in vele opzichten liever kwijt dan rijk. En het is duidelijk dat de Europeanen hun eigen affaires beter regelen kunnen zonder door ons lastig gevallen te worden.
Ook wij hebben niet zo veel meer aan de Europeesche connectie.
Joegoslavië
Balkan een en twee zouden, zonder inmenging van de VS, nog grotere slachtpartijen zijn geweest dan ze al waren. Niet dat dat goed zou zijn geweest, maar die inmenging heeft ons echt geen lof gebracht - nu nog worden wij daarvoor verboemand door velen die liever geen confrontatie met de Serben hadden gehad en zich door onze betweterij gekrenkt wisten.
[Ware wij instede afzijdig geweest, dan zou de hele wereld hebben geweten wat een stel hypokriete nietsnutten de Europeanen zijn. Eerlijk gezegd zou dat mij goed uitkomen.]
Stel nu dat er ergens weer een oorlog plaatsvind - Is het niet hoogtijd dat Europa er wat aan doet? Daargelaten dat ze normalitair daar net doen alsof er niets aand de hand is en er geen str*nt aan hun fikkes kleeft.
Irak & Iran
Wat Irak betreft, dat was een geweldig stomme zet van ons. Niet alleen omdat die oorlog geen valide basis had, maar meer omdat het zo'n pracht opportuniteit was voor onze "bondgenoten" ons voor aap te zetten. Die opportuniteit heeft de Bush regering hun stomblind geschonken, de Duitsers en Fransen gingen met die opportuniteit vrolijk aan de haal, en genieten er nog van na.

We moeten maar dulden dat de Fransen en Duitsers, kalm en doordacht, op subtiele en intelligente wijze, door geduldige diplomatische onderhandelingen met hun ambstgenoten in Iran, het op den duur toch niet presteren de Iraniers ervan te overtuigen dat die kernwapen ontwikkeling stop gezet moet worden. Laat Amerika zich maar niet in andermans oorlogen mengen, en zich niet met andermans natuurrampen bemoeien. Als ergens de boel in puin is, triest, maar wie kan het eigenlijk schelen? Wat mij betreft klaart de wereld maar hun eigen perkara.
Ik begrijp wel dat zo'n opvatting asociaal is, kinderachtig, onrealistisch, onhumanistisch, en typisch Amerikaans. Doet me weinig.
En ik weet wel dat het onze eigen schuld is dat de rest van de wereld de pest aan ons heeft. Maar ge raad het wel..... ook dat kan mij allang niet meer schelen.
Kijk, de internationale populariteits contest hebben we al verloren. Venezuala, Rusland, Iran, en Cuba zijn ons op dat gebied ver en blijvend vooruit. Het heeft dus geen punt om nog te competeren.
De transatlantieke bondgenootschap bestaat nog maar nauwelijks, Europa is ons in vele opzichten liever kwijt dan rijk. En het is duidelijk dat de Europeanen hun eigen affaires beter regelen kunnen zonder door ons lastig gevallen te worden.
Ook wij hebben niet zo veel meer aan de Europeesche connectie.
Joegoslavië
Balkan een en twee zouden, zonder inmenging van de VS, nog grotere slachtpartijen zijn geweest dan ze al waren. Niet dat dat goed zou zijn geweest, maar die inmenging heeft ons echt geen lof gebracht - nu nog worden wij daarvoor verboemand door velen die liever geen confrontatie met de Serben hadden gehad en zich door onze betweterij gekrenkt wisten.
[Ware wij instede afzijdig geweest, dan zou de hele wereld hebben geweten wat een stel hypokriete nietsnutten de Europeanen zijn. Eerlijk gezegd zou dat mij goed uitkomen.]
Stel nu dat er ergens weer een oorlog plaatsvind - Is het niet hoogtijd dat Europa er wat aan doet? Daargelaten dat ze normalitair daar net doen alsof er niets aand de hand is en er geen str*nt aan hun fikkes kleeft.
Irak & Iran
Wat Irak betreft, dat was een geweldig stomme zet van ons. Niet alleen omdat die oorlog geen valide basis had, maar meer omdat het zo'n pracht opportuniteit was voor onze "bondgenoten" ons voor aap te zetten. Die opportuniteit heeft de Bush regering hun stomblind geschonken, de Duitsers en Fransen gingen met die opportuniteit vrolijk aan de haal, en genieten er nog van na.

DO NOT PAVE LEBANON
Yesterday I was rather intemperate in my posting. I wrote: "I am sorry that Sharon did not pave over all of Southern Lebanon in 1982. He should have driven the population northwards and salted the earth. "
This was not the most sane and rational thing I have ever written.
As reader Charles Malik subsequently pointed out.

He is right. Yesterday's text was not exactly geared towards a rational discussion of issues.
I will freely admit, despite my sense that all the Arab opinions regarding the United States and Israel are wrong, some bone-headedly so, that there are grey zones, and areas where discussion can begin. And that there is much we have in common.
And there most certainly are Arabs with whom one can actually get along, whom one can even admire. In that vein I should point out that Saudi King Abdullah yesterday argued in favour of tolerance and reconciliation.
A cynic might say that if this is believable, it's about time. A skeptic would dismiss it as merely an obfuscatory trick, part of the strategy for softening up the future dhimmis, and not nearly a bold enough statement.
Perhaps it did not go as far as could be desired. Indeed, given the audience at that conference, it may have been little more than a diplomatic politeness. A courtesy suited to the crowd.
Let us instead admire him for having the courage to say it. The opinion he ventured will win him no friends among the extremists, and will not affect the hard-core on our side who have already rigidified into anti-Islamists. It was not pandering to powerblocks or threats. It was a rational observation in an age which is not entirely welcoming of such things.
There are others in the Arab and in the Muslim world who are worthy of respect. We should not be blind to that fact, or deaf to their voices. And in castigating them all for the unseemly and obscene triumphalist Hezbollah orgy yesterday, I was incorrect.
So, other than keenly desiring that all members of Hezbollah and their pals in Hamas, and much of the Syrian and Iranian leadership, plus their sympathizers in Europe and the Arab world, should die horrible deaths, soon and in our days, and that their names be forgotten, their heirs be outcastes and paupers, and their graves by plowed under and used for dung heaps, I do not wish all of Southern Lebanon to be paved over. It is a beautiful place, I've been told, and I've known some very nice Lebanese. I wish them well. And I wish them to be rid of their yokes.
We've got a couple of our own yokes that we too need to be rid of.

IN WHICH I SPEAK UNFAVOURABLY OF THE DUTCH, THE EUROPEANS, AND THE UNITED NATIONS
No, this has naught to do with Israel. Or Jews. I have in the past slammed the Dutch, Europeans, and United Nations several times for their abysmal two-facedness and reprehensible record regarding Jews and Israel. Not this time.
This time I speak of their abysmal two-facedness and reprehensible record regarding Muslims and the Balkans.
SREBENICA
In 1993 General Morillon (a Frenchman, currently member of the Euro parliament) told the besieged town of Srebrenica that they were under the protection of the UN, and he would never, never (!) abandon them. He left the army within the year.
In April of that year, the UN Security Council officially declared that Srebrenica was a UN safe area, and that it would be safeguarded from attack.
By spring of 1995 the situation was desperate: the Serb terrorists were determined to capture Srebenica and expunge the Muslim inhabitants, the UN had done nearly nothing to ensure the safety of the sixty thousand people in the town despite looming disaster, supplies were running low, and the Dutch peacekeepers were becoming keenly aware of the apathy of their NATO colleagues about the situation.
NOTE: I should mention at this point that the Dutch had become overly friendly with the Serbians during their time in the Balkans - Lieutenant Colonel Karremans (now hiding out in Spain, where no one particularly cares about his role in the debacle), in command of the Dutch at Srebenica, seems to have had a drinking-buddy relationship with Serb terrorist commander Ratko Mladic, to whom he looked up, and from whom he accepted favours.
There have also been well-attested incidents of ethnic Dutch soldiers hazing (abusing) fellow soldiers of Moroccan and Turkish ancestry in the Dutch army - including one incident in which they poured gasoline over a companion and threatened to burn the damn' heathen. Certainly they did not look upon the Muslim Bosniaks in an overly kind fashion, and an argument can well be made that the bigotries of small town Holland affected their concern for their charges in Bosnia.
JULY 1995
Between July tenth and July twenty first, Dutch forces witnessed several incidents which indicated that Serbs neither respected the inviolability of people in the UN safe area, nor intended to honour the assurances of safety and civilized treatment of the refugees that they had given the Dutch - there were numerous murders, rapes, and incidents of brutal torture. There is consequently no way that any of the Dutchbat soldiers and officers could then, or can since, claim ignorance of what was going to happen.
On the 21st of July 1995, after surrendering the Bosniaks to the Serbian terrorists, Karremans and company left the area of Srebrenica for safer climes. Apparently the four hundred Dutch soldiers did not develop any psychological problems despite what befell the refugees they abandoned, as not long after they were happily carousing in Sarajevo. Since their return to the Netherlands, however, the Dutch government has kept them mostly under wraps, claiming that they are 'traumatized'.
Which conveniently keeps them out of the light, and away from the somewhat disinterested eyes of the Dutch press.
Now the survivors of their compassion are seeking justice. And suing the Dutch government.

It took the Dutch seven years to conclude that perhaps something went disastrously wrong. Now let us see how the Dutch courts deal with the issue, and who will get splattered - there is more than enough blame to pass around.

On a related note, if it weren't for the US, the Serbians and their Greek and Russky volunteers would've pogrommed Bosnia and Kosovo right off the map. The Europeans were ready to sit back and watch it happen, the UN would've done nothing more than pass the usual resolutions, and a majority of the international community would've ignored the issue in return for their own flaws being overlooked.
I sometimes think that when we bombed Belgrado in 1999 we should've dropped a couple of stray thousand-pounders on the other European capitals.

A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN
Tomorrow the Dutch and the French soccer teams face each other in the European Championships. North and South; two types of Franks against each other. But this is not the Battle of the Golden Spurs, and will not decide the fate of Flanders, nor will it decide the supremacy of herring over snails.
It is, rather, a sporting contest between the 'Mad Cheese' and the 'Fromage Perfide'.

BOYCOTTS AND OTHER TIRESOME CLICHÉS
In reaction to my posting about the British University and College Union reviving their odious campaign to boycott Israel, regarding which I cheekily complained that there were too few British things to boycott in response, reader and friend of blog Graham suggested that instead I boycott the English language.
He made the suggestion in Dutch.
Touché. 'Cheek-mate', so to speak.
[He is an Englishman. Dutch is my other native tongue. ]
However, boycott the English language? Heaven forefend! If I wrote mostly in Dutch, I would have far too many Netherlanders visiting this blog, and not nearly enough rational readers.

Passé cineaste cancels appearance in Tel Aviv.
Director Jean-Luc Godard recently withdrew from an Israeli film festival because of political motivations, succumbing to pressure from pro-Palestinians to boycott Israel.
That decision probably came naturally to him; his oeuvre betrays his biases.
PEEVISH IDEOLOGUE
Jean-Luc Godard is a crypto-Stalinist from an era (1960's) when post-war Europeans were discovering just how delicious it was to daemonize the United States, their own governments, their war heroes, their colonialist involvements, their societies' values, their own spectacular role in the mismanagement of the world, their religions, and their parents.
Such rejectionist "self-liberation" from the burden of the past enabled them to deny all involvement, guilt, and responsibility. It also allowed them to set aside WWII and pretend to be new, different, clean - societies transformed and sanctified.
It still is considered au courant, hip, and educated to subscribe to this crippled and glib world-view. Coupled with a selective superficial appreciation of both "culture" and Marxist ideals, it has been a hallmark of ultra-progressive Europeans ever since.
HACKNEYED HAS-BEEN
Jean-Luc Godard is nothing if not consistent - in the last forty years he's done little more than remain staunchly loyal to a rigid iconoclastic hashkofo.
One would not expect a leading light of New Wave cinema to break his own mold and reject his own clichés.
I wish him much success cooperating with the film boards of the Arab world - I expect that his next film will be a masterpiece along the lines of 'Triumph des Willens'.
Anything else would, of course, be censored, and being ideologically supportive of developing-world despotisms, he would wholeheartedly approve of that - societies struggling upward must not be hampered by free speech.
Even if one would expect such censorship to go against the very fibre of Jean-Luc Godard's being, we should instead assume that the very fibre of his being is sodden with self-loathing and a drang for discipline rather than any real appreciation of liberal values. That is a common response to the extraordinary freedoms of postwar European society, and many ultra-progressive Europeans are thus afflicted (their liberalism hides an insecurity and negativity that goes all the way to the bone).
[It probably also explains 'progressive' support for a boycott of Israel; as such it represents not only denial of that nation's right to exist, but deliberate deafness to its ideals and ideas, and a rejection of everything that is Israeli - people, society, culture, products - as if they were pollution and their very proximity defiling. All done in the approved manner, self-righteously as a social movement or group manifestation rather than by tyrannic fiat.
This is a censorship as fierce but far more degenerate than any other - with the pretense that personal freedoms are not affected, though individual choices are circumscribed and dissent is fiercely censured.]
At the ripe old age of seventy eight it must be too painful for Jean-Luc Godard to admit that he is scarce more than an intellectual manqué, appreciated because of political correctness, by the politically correct.
The lack of imagination on both sides of that equation speaks volumes.
If any of that loathsome Marxist's jejune films get shown in the bay Area, I will be organizing a protest.

Jean-Luc Godard is a crypto-Stalinist from an era (1960's) when post-war Europeans were discovering just how delicious it was to daemonize the United States, their own governments, their war heroes, their colonialist involvements, their societies' values, their own spectacular role in the mismanagement of the world, their religions, and their parents.
Such rejectionist "self-liberation" from the burden of the past enabled them to deny all involvement, guilt, and responsibility. It also allowed them to set aside WWII and pretend to be new, different, clean - societies transformed and sanctified.
It still is considered au courant, hip, and educated to subscribe to this crippled and glib world-view. Coupled with a selective superficial appreciation of both "culture" and Marxist ideals, it has been a hallmark of ultra-progressive Europeans ever since.
HACKNEYED HAS-BEEN
Jean-Luc Godard is nothing if not consistent - in the last forty years he's done little more than remain staunchly loyal to a rigid iconoclastic hashkofo.
One would not expect a leading light of New Wave cinema to break his own mold and reject his own clichés.
I wish him much success cooperating with the film boards of the Arab world - I expect that his next film will be a masterpiece along the lines of 'Triumph des Willens'.
Anything else would, of course, be censored, and being ideologically supportive of developing-world despotisms, he would wholeheartedly approve of that - societies struggling upward must not be hampered by free speech.
Even if one would expect such censorship to go against the very fibre of Jean-Luc Godard's being, we should instead assume that the very fibre of his being is sodden with self-loathing and a drang for discipline rather than any real appreciation of liberal values. That is a common response to the extraordinary freedoms of postwar European society, and many ultra-progressive Europeans are thus afflicted (their liberalism hides an insecurity and negativity that goes all the way to the bone).
[It probably also explains 'progressive' support for a boycott of Israel; as such it represents not only denial of that nation's right to exist, but deliberate deafness to its ideals and ideas, and a rejection of everything that is Israeli - people, society, culture, products - as if they were pollution and their very proximity defiling. All done in the approved manner, self-righteously as a social movement or group manifestation rather than by tyrannic fiat.
This is a censorship as fierce but far more degenerate than any other - with the pretense that personal freedoms are not affected, though individual choices are circumscribed and dissent is fiercely censured.]
At the ripe old age of seventy eight it must be too painful for Jean-Luc Godard to admit that he is scarce more than an intellectual manqué, appreciated because of political correctness, by the politically correct.
The lack of imagination on both sides of that equation speaks volumes.
If any of that loathsome Marxist's jejune films get shown in the bay Area, I will be organizing a protest.
