TRADER JOE'S AND ANTI-SEMITES

As if the usual idiocy from the ultra-fringe weren't enough, now the pro-Palestinians wish to "de-shelve" Israeli products at Trader Joe's stores. Predictably this nonsense originated in California.
Names such as Yasmin Qureishi, Kate Raphael Bender, IJAN, The South Bay Mobilization, San Francisco Women in Black, and other known "sympathizers" are associated with the plan.
Sofar it is merely food owned by someone else that they wish to shoplift or destroy - apparently they have no intention of discarding their computers, cell-phones, text-message and anti-spam software, medications, or any other products which have Israeli content.

But couscous, that they will do without. And they demand that you stop eating it also.

This blogger does not consume couscous - I will force myself to start eating it now.

"Israeli or pearl couscous tastes more like barley than traditional couscous, with a large, pearly grain that pops in the mouth. It's slightly chewy and utterly delicious."
[Source: http://www.thekitchn.com/ this post: http://www.thekitchn.com/thekitchn/noodles-pasta-and-grains/trader-joes-pantry-harvest-grains-blend-033688 Trader Joe's Pantry: Harvest Grains Blend]

Sounds yummy!

And here's a great recipe:
http://www.shutterbean.com/israeli-couscous-with-zucchini-lentils/
Please note that the recipe includes feta cheese. I believe that 'Pastures Of Eden Feta Cheese' would be an excellent choice!

"Israeli couscous goes well with grilled scapegoat".
[Source: http://jeffreygoldberg.theatlantic.com/archives/2009/06/latest_anti-israel_idiocy_trad.php]

Alas, no recipe provided. But young goat (available at Halal markets) rubbed with garlic, zatar, and olive oil, grilled over coals, would probably be very good. Some zhug and pita bread alongside, and you have a feast!

A SNOOK AT YOU!

I was alerted to the insanity by fellow-blogger Snooky Wong, whose two posts on the subject can be found here: http://deathbynoodles.blogspot.com/2009/06/couscous-and-feta.html
and here: http://deathbynoodles.blogspot.com/2009/06/buy-israeli-food.html
[The first one linked is very long, as it quotes the odious letter from Yasmin Qureishi. The second post is shorter, but provides links to several other bloggers. The lesson you should learn from these two posts is not to mess with a Cantonese woman's food. Don't even think of it. Just don't.]

As a snarky nose-thumb at the Arab-American activists and their groupies, she writes: "See, Israel is more diverse, by a VERY WIDE MARGIN, than any of the Arab countries. And the Arabs don't appear to like anybody but themselves - except, of course, for the Philippinas and other female guest-workers whom they rape at the drop of a hat in the Gulf States, Lebanon, and Saudi Arabia - and would you care to guess about the perpetrators of a very large number of violent sex crimes in Europe?"

Well, that is true....... Israel is vastly more diverse than any of the Arab countries, possibly excepting the Gulf States - where, as she also mentions, the rape and sexual exploitation of Philippinas and other foreign females employed domestically is a regular occurrence. Perhaps that is why the Gulf-States are so diverse - sexual appetites vary enormously.

Regarding the perps of sex-crimes in Europe, the number of rapes committed by Arabs in the Netherlands, Belgium, and France is staggering (per articles in the Algemeen Dagblad and other newspapers). In Holland, the term for pimps who force young girls into prostitution is "lover boy". Many of the 'lover boys' are Arab-Netherlanders, most of their under-age victims are ethnically Dutch. It's a problem of epidemic proportions. So also, the incidence of sexual harassment and gang-rape in places like Gouda and Rotterdam, which have significant Arab populations.
Such things rather suggest to many native Dutch that a large number of Arab immigrants is not a good thing.

You'll be glad to know that there is NO evidence that consumption of Israeli Couscous or Pastures of Eden Feta Cheese leads to sexual violence.

On the other hand, I shall studiously be avoiding dates and figs from such places as Syria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and elsewhere in the Arab world, as I have no need to subsidize the brutalization of women and migrant workers.

BUY ISRAELI PRODUCTS DAY
June 19 & 20, 2009.

The boycot activists intend to start their campaign this weekend - June 19 & 20. They have taken their cue from the thugs who invaded the Carrefour supermarkets around Paris, destroying merchandise and threatening shoppers, as well as the half-wits who committed theft and vandalism at Tesco in Britain.
Trader Joe's has already let it be known that it has no intention of giving in. The rest is up to you. Please continue shopping for Israeli products at Trader Joe's.

=========================================

PLEASE NOTE: No Philippinas or other female workers were harmed in the writing of this post. This blogger is generally in favour of Philippinas and other female workers, and would not think of harming them.

Let's see. In just the last 24 hours, Israelis invented a wheelchair that climbs steps.

What have the Saudis, or any of those countries, invented lately? Um, I guess they export oil, but they sure didn't invent it. As for our Pals -- and they know who they are -- they practically invented suicide bombers and flying pipe bombs. Congratulations, fellas. A remarkable contribution to humankind. You must be very proud.)

I watched a couple videos on Youtube showing the nitwits vandalizing European supermarkets, and was astonished how many products and produce Israel exports. A freakin' desert, people. I mean, I already knew about cellphones, instant messenger, security software and medical breakthroughs too numerous to mention. But, for some reason, growing green pepper in the desert struck me as almost more impressive.

Perhaps it would be more appropriate to say "Up theirs, their goats and their wives"
    see:

Sudan's Goat Wife Chokes to Death
A goat that gained international notoriety last year after getting married to a Sudanese man who indecently assaulted her has died after accidentally choking on a plastic bag.

The black and white goat called Rose swallowed the plastic bag while scavenging for scraps on the streets of Juba, a town in southern Sudan, it was reported today.

The story of the goat's "marriage" became one of the most widely read stories on the internet last year.

A Google search brings up more than 170,000 web pages based on the story.

The incident came to worldwide attention in February last year when the BBC Monitoring Service reported that the goat's owner had been woken by a loud noise outside and rushed out to find a man having sex with the animal.

The intruder, Charles Tombe, was captured and hauled before the local council of elders who ordered him to marry Rose and pay a dowry of 15,000 Sudanese dinars (£37) to Mr Alifi.

Following the marriage Rose had a male kid, but "not a human one", Mr Rhodes said.

    wow. your ignorance is astounding.

the type of couscous in question has existed in the middle east for centuries. israel, on the contrary, has existed for a little over 60 years. in those 60 years, israel has stolen land, stolen culture, stolen food, stolen life, and stolen dignity from the jewish faith as well as the palestinian people.

if i were you, i would be embarrassed at such intense support for an apartheid state and a government that is guilty of severe human rights abuses and war crimes.

i only hope that one day you will take the time to educate yourself. in the meantime, it might behoove you to brush up on your history, as well as your empathy.

Right back at you. Perhaps reading is a skill at which you do not excel?

Couscous = Berber invention, and per a Moroccan I know, possibly a Jewish invention, but I doubt that, as it is perfect nomadic food. Most importantly, rolled SEMOLINA pellets.

Israeli couscous = DURUM flour extrudite in pearl form, baked. Rather like ORZO. It is a SUBSTITUTE for both rice and couscous.

if i were you, i would be embarrassed at such intense support for an apartheid state and a government that is guilty of severe human rights abuses and war crimes.

Have you considered tempering your staggering ignorance with a bit of reading? I highly recommend it.

it might behoove you to brush up on your history, as well as your empathy.

Behoove? Mighty fancy word for someone who is ignorant of basic facts.
To start with, I can recommend several culinary reference works, but I doubt that food is an interest of yours. Your knowledge of history is similarly limited, and in need of augmentation.

stolen land, stolen culture, stolen food, stolen life,

For your information, the PLO was initially lavishly funded with a mere percentage of what was confiscated from the Egyptian Jewish community.
Confiscation is a nice word for massive theft, by the way. It's what fueled much of the economies of Arab countries which didn't have oil throughout the fifties and sixties, and enriched Arab bureaucrats and politicians for decades. Individually they may have been poor, but collectively it added up - and proved far too tempting for the venal element among the Arabs. And you might want to do some research on which mosques were endowed with what could be extorted from Jews and Christians.......

Problem is that like oil, Jews proved a non-renewable resource - which is why Egypt is now part of the American orbit - the Russians had little interest in keeping the population of Egypt from starving, but somehow the US thinks that that might be a good idea.

Its funny when these naive Western appologists for the Palestinains talk about "stolen land". If they ANY real understanding of the history of the region, they would find that Jews had been BUYING land in pre-state Israel for a long time For example, Petach Tikva was PURCHASED in 1878. By 1886, it was already under attack by Arabs, with no "occupation" as an excuse. Whats more revealing about these naive Western appologists for the Palestinians who know EVERYTHING about Israel but don't know that the Jews ethnically cleansed from Arab lands after 1948 were disposed of real estate 5 times the size of ther state of Israel. Shall we say "double standard?"

congrats on missing my point entirely. let me be more clear: the durum *variety* of couscous has existed in the middle east LONG before israel existed. the only reason it is called "israeli" now is because it has been absorbed in the imperialist movement of the state of israel.

i also find it laughable that your response to my assertion of israel as an apartheid state is to tell me to do more reading. um, looks like you're the one who needs to brush up on history and current affairs. here are a few starter links:

please, tell me. i'm all ears. i would love to know why you personally are so enamored of a government that is so ethically questionable?

congrats on missing my point entirely. let me be more clear: the durum *variety* of couscous has existed in the middle east LONG before israel existed. the only reason it is called "israeli" now is because it has been absorbed in the imperialist movement of the state of israel.

Look it up - the Israeli type of couscous is NOT the same as the other couscous. And for your information, there is NO Palestinian type of couscous, that's just the typical couscous as invented, by Berbers (not Arabs) in North Africa.

It's called Israeli couscous because the word ptitim sounds too foreign and non-Anglo. Much like soy sauce is called "soy sauce', rather than "Dou Jiang", or "Tou Jeung", or even "kecap" - renaming things for an English-only audience is standard. Do you eat sambal, or do you eat 'chili-paste'? Kaes, fromage, or cheese?

Furthermore, are you saying that the Mizrahi and Sfardi members of Israeli society should NOT eat couscous? Just because the Arabs will not export it? Even though they have eaten it longer than Arabs? There were Jewish communities in Al Maghreb centuries BEFORE the first Arab had even arrived there? And do you dare assert that a brutal Arab conquest 12 centuries ago changes couscous from a Berber invention to an Arab idea? How utterly racist!

Mizrahi and Sfardi Jews have eaten couscous, of any and all types, since long before ANY of the Arab states existed. None of the present Arab states is older than the late Ottoman period, most didn't even come into existence till years after the fall of the Ottoman empire.

also find it laughable that your response to my assertion of israel as an apartheid state is to tell me to do more reading. um, looks like you're the one who needs to brush up on history and current affairs. here are a few starter links:

I find it offensive that you English-speakers dare to mis-use a word from my language! As a Dutch-speaker AND a twelfth generation Dutch-American in whose family there have always been Dutch-speakers, I can claim to know and understand what the word 'apartheid' really means.
Your starter links suck, by the way. Each and every one of them is a rather inane and simplistic hate site.

    i'm all ears.

    You're a donkey?

And further, regarding the use of the word apartheid, that's cultural theft by a bunch of foreigners. You English speakers just wouldn't understand.

Kate Raphael's self-aggrandizing claims of success for the deshelving of Israeli products at Trader Joe's venues in the Bay Area last Saturday was as much of a pitiful farce as the even itself. Two stores in Marin saw no action. Staff in Rockridge turned away a couple of timid protestors without a problem -- because almost all the Israeli products had been sold out! Several of us closely followed a couple into the Lakeshore TJ's, and they quickly gave up and left -- only a few packages of Dorot frozen herbs were left. All this silly and ineffective protest managed to accomplish was to sharply boost the sale of Israeli products at Trader Joe's stores across the country. Good work, folks!

A pox on the Arabs. Lazy good-for-nothing camel humpers. May they all die of the clap. Or bad Paki biriani.

And lets talk about the treatment of non-Muslims in the Arab world. Did you know that most Arab countries discriminate against Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, and Unitarian Universalists?

They also discrimate against Parsees. Which is completely fucked up. Give us back Iran, and destroy the buggery mosques, and we won't say anymore about it.

Arabs are the LAST people to talk of apartheid. What they practise in the Gulf resembles slavery. Worse racists than the Arabs do not exist. And hell will freeze over before I ever work for one of those goatfuckers again.

I hope their computers freeze up and their software gets infected.

    That is all.

Gentlemen, you could also have mentioned the treatment of homosexuals in those places. That, too, is an example of Arab hatefullness and violent repressiveness.

Makes one wonder how truly committed some elements among our right-thinking liberals are to gay-marriage. Surely they cannot approve of brutal treatment in one place for people whose cause they pimp in another?

Freedom for gays in the US is undermined by support for regimes and societies that violently repress homosexuals elsewhere. There is NO permissible level of cultural relativism on such an issue.

    http://www.ad.nl/binnenland/3312877/Marokkanen_gooien_eieren_naar_homo.html

This was written by an European. Indians and Pakistanis do not call them goatfuckers, and respect the contributions made by Muslims to Indian civilization. Mathemetics, medicine, architecture, canels, roads, and poetry. Nothing of those existed before Islam in India. Just look at the Taj Mahol. Those peoples were still building piramids before then.

You're pulling my leg, right? I mean, you've GOT to be pulling my leg. Nobody could POSSIBLY believe .... oh, never mind. I forgot what kind of person I'm talking to.

Still ..... you ARE pulling my leg, aren't you?

    Actually, they do.

When Delhi was still overwhelmingly Muslim, the term 'bakri-chot' gained currency. Since then the term has also been applied to Muslims in Lucknow, Agra, Hyderabad, Islamabad, Karachi, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and places further afield. Methinks the praedilection is a well-know characteristic.
But yes, in Dutch they are called 'geite neukers'. Probably similar locutions exist in French, German, Danish, Italian, and Spanish.
Not the most beautiful of nicknames, I grant you. But it could indeed be apt.
I'll just wait untill I catch one in the act before I form an opinion on the matter.

    On Your Shit List,

Exactly how has Israel "stolen dignity from the Jewish faith"? I don't get it. By welcoming in refugees from Vietnam and Cambodia? Or from Darfur?

Human rights abuses? How come those who hate Israel never mentioned nations whose human rights records are far, far worse? How come they never make a stink over the fact that Turkey denies the Armenian Holocaust? Or how badly women and gays are treated in Iran and Saudi Arabia?
Oh, I know! It is because Turkey, Iran, and Saudi Arabia are not Jewish countries. According to cultural relativism, whatever they do can be understood because "their perspective." But Israel is the Jewish state, and therefore must be condemned whenever possible.
Fine, forget it. I know the sort of nutjob you are. You're too stupid to know what cultural relativism means anyway.

    My dear I. Vybot,

Only a profound illiterate could make that assertion. Indian civilization predates everything Islamic by more than two millennia. Including mathematics, medicine, architecture, canals, roads, and poetry. The corpus of Sanskrit literature, including technical and scientific writing, is vast. India had had two golden ages before the Arabs had even erupted from their waste lands.

And as for pyramids - Egypt, the Aztecs, the Inca, and the Maya. Indians did not build pyramids. Even the bhainchot Arabs considered Egypt a surpassingly advanced civilization, and still remain in awe of its achievements.

Can I assume that your statement was fuelled by bile and a supercilious attitude, rather than a deep-seated lack of any knowledge, other than what some fifth-rate madrassa forcefed you as a pup?

Just to reiterate: sab Lahore-main bakri-chot hai!

As well as kudhi-chot, and gand-ki-chot.

The Muslims brought nopthing but terror, rape, slavery, and oppression to India.

Hope we get to bomb Pakistan soon.
    Damned mother-violators.
