Sometimes Savage Kitten sends me e-mail messages while I am at work. It's a version of love-talk, or sweet-nothings whispered into the ear. Charming little notes to let me know she's thinking of me.
To illustrate, here is an example:
From: 'Savage Kitten'
Sent: Tuesday, March 31, 2009 12:05 PM
To: 'Mr. Toad'
Subject: The blonde gor-vestite in the cube next to me!!
Oh, the horror. The Horror!
I'm at the library, taking advantage of free internet.
Next to me, clopping back and forth, is this platinum blonde with a suspiciously husky voice, who is too high maintenance for words.
If ya wanna use a 30 minute computer at most branch libraries, all ya gotta do is:
1) type in your card number (some of us have it memorized)
2) your pin number (ditto)
No psychological testing necessary. Or a breathalyzer.
This woman has stomped back and forth to the librarians at least four times, demanding help. She doesn't have her card. She can't remember her pin number. Okay, the computer still isn't doing what she needs. Apparently, she can't type either, because she's entered in the wrong thing.
After she's gotten another librarian to come over and actually get her logged on, she's explaining that she's in a hurry, has to be at the airport by a certain time.
When she's FINALLY logged on, she still won't hush. "Fu*&" and enough sighs to inflate a dirigible come out every other second as she's pounding away. From the sounds of the keystrokes, it's like she's hitting each key with a splayed fingertip, like she doesn't want her nails to get boo-bood.
Oh, life is soooooooooooooooooo hard for her.
I think this woman has to be some demented idiot's "trophy" because I can't see her holding down any job.
She eventually leaves. Clomping. I'm internally laughing my bitchy head off.
("Gor-vestite" is my spur of the moment portmanteau phrase for a combination creature who acts like a gorilla and a transvestite. Between the frenzied mashing of the keyboard and the baritone cursing, this person qualifies.)
--------------------------------------
See? Wasn't that sweet?
I don't know about you, but it brightened my day.
I'm beaming right now.
FINAL NOTE: the bar for 'gorvestitism' in Savage Kitten's world is probably very low, especially for platinum blondes, because she herself is a relatively petite Cantonese American. And many platinum blondes here in SF know that this is their world, the rest of us just live in it.
I associate blondes with Dutch people, she associates them with an arrogant inability to do math or play well with anybody. That's just the way it is.
Warning: May contain traces of soy, wheat, lecithin and tree nuts. That you are here
strongly suggests that you are either omnivorous, or a glutton.
And that you might like cheese-doodles.
Please form a caseophilic line to the right. Thank you.

CHARLES FREEMAN AND A JEWISH CABAL
There's an interesting post on ZioNation to which I would draw your attention.
Freeman versus "hardline Jews"
By Ami Isseroff.
March 11, 2009
Quote:
"The supporters of Freeman never fought for him on the issues, but rather on the one irrelevant bogey man issue of "Israel Lobby." Whether or not Dennis Blair, Director of National Intelligence, intended it, the struggle over the nomination of Freeman became an outpost in the battle in a war against Israel and supporters of Israel. It was intentionally billed as such by those who oppose Israel under the guise of "tough love." The issue is billed as support for settlements or "hard line" Israeli negotiating positions vis-à-vis the Palestinians, but that facade is transparent to anyone who wants to look. Some of the rhetoric has now degenerated into frank attacks on "Jews." "

Quote:
"Freeman [cut] is a "realist," which means, in his interpretation, an appeaser of those who are perceived to be powerful and violent at the expense of the dissidents and powerless. His crusade against Israel, supported by all those ambassadors, is based on the common perception in the US diplomatic corps that has never been altered since before the Six Day War that Israel is a "non-viable client state" that exists at the pleasure of the United States and must do its bidding. "
Freeman himself states in his defense:
"There is a special irony in having been accused of improper regard for the opinions of foreign governments and societies by a group so clearly intent on enforcing adherence to the policies of a foreign government."
And:
"I have never sought to be paid or accepted payment from any foreign government, including Saudi Arabia or China, for any service, nor have I ever spoken on behalf of a foreign government, its interests, or its policies. I have never lobbied any branch of our government for any cause, foreign or domestic"
Oh? How very ..... 'interesting'!
Yet he is well-known as a hack for the house of Saud, fulsome in his praise of his masters. And his plaudits of the Chinese Communist crackdown at Tiananmen are unabashedly supportive of the brutality of dictators.
All this would echo the pre-war admirers of Hitler and Mussolini, were it not that the authoritarians he praises are in fact feudalists and communists.
Instead, one must think of the left's love affair with the tyrannies of Stalin, Mao, and Polpot - which carry over today in their flirtation with the most repressive and reprehensible elements among the Muslims. In this they are no blessing to the West, and provide ill-service to rational people in the Muslim world.
I shall let Ami Isseroff have the last word here, as it his piece with which I started.
Quote:
The battle is not over and it won't be. The anti-Israel lobby have already started their blood libel, (and) are casting Freeman as a latter day Simon of Trent. If you think I am exaggerating, read Robert Dreyfuss's rant in the Nation:
"---Joining in on the trashing of Freeman were the (let's face it) hard-line Jews of the Democratic Congress, including Senator Charles Schumer of New York, Rep. Steve Israel (yes, he is actually named "Israel") of New York, and of course, that former Democrat, Joe Lieberman -- all of whom crowded into the amen corner with AIPAC..."
At last the Jew word is out. "Hardline Jews" no less. And Dreyfuss and the Nation are not above juvenile wordplay with people's names, either. Don't let the "progressive" aura of The Nation or its pretensions to intellectuality fool you. Dreyfuss is a "hardline" right-wing anti-Semite who used to edit Executive Intelligence Review, described by Wikipedia as "the flagship journal of the Lyndon LaRouche movement." The demented jibe at Steve Israel's name speaks for itself. Dreyfuss's article is just one of many that mourn the innocent victim of the "hardline Jews."

Now, I shall be the first to admit that Charles Freeman was eminently suited to the position, especially given that the Saudis and their friends in the oil-industry desperately need a powerful friend in Washington since their protégés returned to Texas.
I just do not think that it is acceptable for the heart of our administration to be occupied by elements intent on subverting the normal functions of our government, nor especially by an individual so clearly intent on enforcing adherence to the policies of a foreign state. And for that reason, I welcome the withdrawal of mister Freeman from consideration for this or any other post.
He is by no means an innocent victim, nor are his defenders honest men.
-------------------------
AFTERTHOUGHTS
If any reader now wishes to call me a hardline Jew too, please feel free to do so.
In point of fact, I am a liberal Gentile, as a close reading of my blog would tell you, though I do not expect you to believe this if you are a supporter of Charles Freeman or given to the paranoid conspiracy theories popular among the far left (in which, of course, you more than match the far right). And if that is indeed the case, your opinion ist mir really scheiß egal.
I like the term 'Hardline Jew'. It sounds like a badge of pride - what in Dutch we would call a 'Geuzennaam'.

TURKISH DELIGHT
The following is a guest-post by frequent-commenter Grant Patel.
Don't worry, it is entirely clean - he does not mention underwear at all.
--- --- ---
TURK SOCCER GOONDU SUPPORTS PALLIES
Turkish pro-footballer Ibrahim Dagasan of Sivasspor planted a Palestinian flag in the centre of the field after his team beat Galatasary today. This was greeted by massive anti-Semitic screaming by the audience, composed primarily of idiots unaware of their own nation's depraved and disgusting history.
Not only when Turkey was still the Ottoman Empire - infamous for slave-raiding, brutal repression, sexual profligacy, and sheer decadent cruelty (culminating in the first genocide of the modern era, when Turks brutally slaughtered over a million Armenians (Armenian: Հայոց Ցեղասպանութիւն, Turkish: Ermeni Soykırımı) - but also since then with their gangbusters war against the Kurds. Truly, modern Turkey is still a pit of a nation, just as homicidal, and thuggish in its politics, as when they took over Byzantium, committing murder and rape on a scale so horrific that even the Arabs, no strangers to sadism, were stunned.
While I would like to argue that this is the final drop of sewage in the generously overflowing bucket of proof that Turkey has no place in Europe (let alone anywhere in the civilized world), and should be permanently denied entry to the European Union, but I must alas acknowledge sadly that this instead proves that the Turks are every bit as European as the rest of that bunch. Woe. It is tragic.
I do not know whether this proves the Turks adept at emulation like monkeys, or shows that European anti-Semitism is universally appealing to the imperfectly civilized tribals of the world. I suspect much of both, and resolve to henceforth give Continentals and Muslims as much of a miss as possible in the Bay Area. They are little more than bloodthirsty gandus and owls. Their cooking is not enough to excuse them.
India, China, Japan, and the United States, at least, are civilized. The rest of you lot are mostly pigs. Oink, bitches, oink.
---Grant Patel
==================================
Mr. Patel is a Parsee attorney-at-law, currently at a firm in the Bay Area. He describes his life as "sifting through the clerical detritus created by incompetent Bengalis and neurotic Tamils - telecommunications mostly".
For entertainment, Grant Patel obsesses over undergarments, has fond thoughts of nuking Pakistan, follows the noble sport of cricket, and enjoys fine (non-Muslim) dining. His parents are from Gujarat, hence his meshune love of Undhiu, which normal people loathe from the minute of first exposure.
He is unmarried, likes long walks on the beach, sweet pressed flake pipe-tobacco, and "young wheatish women, provided that they are both feisty and spunky, like a hot pepper".
He also insists that I say that he is "both bahut manly and dashing, very much and exactly like Rajesh Khanna, okay."
Anytime, dude.

PAUL COMMENTS ABOUT THE DUTCH
About a fortnight ago I posted a link to an article in a popular Dutch newspaper, and translated a large number of the comments which readers of that Newspaper had put underneath it.
This post:
FROM THE DUTCH PRESS: OBAMA: HARDER JAGEN OP BIN LADEN
The article discussed Obama's plans to pursue Osama bin Laden with greater zeal than many Dutch assumed would happen, believing as many of them evidently did that Obama would somehow not adhere to a truly American agenda.
The comments underneath that article were sodden with hatred for Yanks and contempt for the USA. As my translation made clear.
Then I editorialized, stating amongst other things that "it should be evident from the above that there is an element among the Dutch who are probably insane, certainly unreliable, and entirely despicable. Not all, but enough of them."
You will understand, I hope, that this blog is sometimes a soapbox for bile.
[I am actually one of the sunniest people I know. I cannot truly think bad about anyone. Honest. I'm all sweetness and light! And cheerful butterflies! Plus lots of bunnies! Love and peace, bruddas.]
Oh, I also venomously snapped that I sometimes wished the Netherlands would be drowned by rising sea levels. But no matter.
PAUL
To my great surprise and pleasure, one reader (Paul) put a long well-thought out comment underneath that post, which I reproduce here in its entirety:
As someone who has lived and worked in the Netherlands for over 8 years, I feel qualified to make a judgment call. I hate generalizing but if I were pushed I would have to put it down to the narrow line between self-confidence and arrogance. Most Dutch people are self-confident (the nice ones). Many have slipped across into arrogance (the not-nice ones). The rest are insane (nothing special here, every country has these).
I believe it comes down to how the children are raised. By way of an example (and I could give many, many more): I cycle 5 miles to work every day. I pass a short stretch of road (maybe 20 yards) that always has cars parked on one side so is just wide enough for a car and bicycle to pass at the same time. Next to this narrow strip of road is a sidewalk. Recently, a young mother was walking on this sidewalk while holding the hand of her toddler, who was walking IN THE ROAD. Cars had stopped at both ends, waiting for the toddler to leave the road. The mother, however, was in no rush to get her child out of the way, but kept saying "goed zo, goed zo" over and over. I was stunned. This child will now grow up believing it has the power to stop traffic. If it survives its first solo encounter with a busy intersection, it will one day become a Dutch teenager who thinks it is fine to block traffic while it chats on its cellphone (yes, I've seen this a few times) or ride four-abreast (more times than I can remember) or even cycle directly towards you on the wrong side of the road because it wants to turn down a side road and it can't understand the concept of waiting until you have passed (groan!).
The simple fact is that in my 8 years in the Netherlands I have yet to meet a humble Dutch person. I think the word has been struck for their language. They believe they know everything about everything and I have never heard one of them apologize, ever (perhaps it happens but I have never witnessed it).
I always enjoy watching two Dutch people discussing something. There is no give-and-take. They just take turns saying what they believe with absolute confidence. They can contradict each other. They can both be 100% wrong. This does not worry them in the slightest. I call this the "Centre-of-the-universe Syndrome".
Of course I have met some really nice Dutch people. Like the wonderful old couple who spotted me walking along with a flat tire one day. They promptly called me over, helped me change the tire, and gave me a big glass of orange juice before sending me on my way. Which is why I don't like to generalize.
He's right.
I cannot remember apologies being common OR gracious in Dutch (actually, I cannot remember apologies in Dutch, period), and the actual verbs used for 'apology' are not exactly humble acknowledgements of error.
Verontschuldigen literally means to disavow responsibility, excuseren means to excuse oneself (frequently in the sense of withdrawing from further comment), spijt betuigen means to express regret (though not accepting blame), schuld toegeven means to admit guilt (though not regret). The person using these verbs is the focus of the action, not the one to whom an apology would be due. It is, if you will, the guilty party seizing control of the discourse, and jumping back into the limelight.
I also particularly enjoyed this statement: "I always enjoy watching two Dutch people discussing something. There is no give-and-take. They just take turns saying what they believe with absolute confidence. They can contradict each other. They can both be 100% wrong. This does not worry them in the slightest. "
That davka matches my experience debating with Dutch people. It makes for interesting conversations. And also eventually great enmity.
Paul, thanks for dropping by, and especially for your comment. You framed it in a way I had not yet considered, but what you said makes complete sense.
I hope to see you here again.

A MUSLIM, A TERRORIST, A SOCIALIST, AND AN ARAB
I present a guest-post by SM, who is one of the commenters on Dovbear's blog whom I have always admired. A shtarke denker whose tight and to the point writings often express ideas that I wished I could have put so well.
He doesn't know that he's guest-posting, by the way. I just decided to lift his text wholesale and plonk it here. It was in a comment string underneath a guest-post by JS on Dovbear's blog.
SM writes:
1. Obama is genuinely inspiring to many, many people. This hurts the teeth of the right wing nut jobs but it is true. Their response is to talk down inspiration as lies - a betrayal of the political process which exposes them as 'only if you think like me' democrats (small 'd').
2. Because he is inspiring Obama has persuaded millions of people to vote who would otherwise not have voted. That is far more important than converting Republicans. He has persuaded people who felt excluded from the political process that they are included. That is a triumph for democracy - unless like some of the moaners above - you don't like the result. How dare dem uppity black folks vote in your election, eh guys?
3. Those same people have been alienated by McCain's choice of a woman who is stupid, uneducated and - most of all - uncaring as his running mate. Never was a more obvious choice to go with the benefit of publicity made. And to my credit I said this when DB first posted on Palin.
4. The right have done nothing but moan about media bias and Obama scare stories. See our own dear mad Essie and her mates. For most people who have never voted before this is a massive turn-off which motivates them against McCain. Lesson: if you whinge endlessly about conspiracies then people will quietly make your worst nightmares come true.
And, as an English football manager once memorably said, 'I am LOVING it'. Bush stinks. McCain was alright but never managed to step away from the smell because his veep (hahahahaha) carried it around with her. I am fed up of hearing Obama is a Muslim, a terrorist, a socialist, an Arab. These are lies told by the desperate because they cannot deal with the truth. And today that sort of crap is being flushed.
The message will not, of course be learned by those who should learn it. They lack the capability. But the USA will swing to the left and there ain't a damn thing anyone can do about it save assassinate the President. I wonder which idiot here will be the first person to defend that? And I shall be there - rejoicing. If Essie moves to Panama I might even take her green card...

The Essie referred to above is Esther, who believes that Obama is a pro-terrorist communist islamo-black-nationalist voodoo practitioner. Or so she has told us in several verbose and over-the-top comments and communications.
We think of her as the Madame Blavatsky of the blog world, purveying messages from the spirits of truth, justice, beauty, and shoes that are too tight.

A WINGNUT AND A PRAYER
For the past several months I have, at times strenuously, tried to avoid talking about American politics on this blog. I have not always succeeded - and some readers have ceased visiting here because of that - but in the main I have not spewed my gall at the gang of republican thugs and deviants that have dragged both a fine party and a great country into the mud.
[Yes, I know that sounds partisan, and will offend those of my readers who despite their excellent taste in blogs still have loyalty to the grand old party, no matter how frightfully misguided that is. I'm sorry. Why don't you take back your party from the slack jawed yokel base of bumpkins that have hijacked it? PLEASE take back your party, we really do need a plurality of thoughts and ideas in this country - we just aren't getting anywhere with only ONE party run by sentient beings.]
Nevertheless, sometimes I will post something political. In this case, it is the stellar comment by Conservative Apikoris (CA) under a post on Dovbear's blog.

The post under which the comment appeard: Curtains for McCain.

His record in the Senate of vocal criticism of Bush's worst policies and total support for them in his votes made his final descent into wingnuttery not too much of a surprise for me.
I strongly recommend Tom Dickingson's article in Rolling Stone about the man:http://www.rollingstone.com/news/coverstory/make_believe_maverick_the_real_john_mccain
Make-Believe Maverick
A closer look at the life and career of John McCain reveals a disturbing record of recklessness and dishonesty
The best line is this:
"In its broad strokes, McCain's life story is oddly similar to that of the current occupant of the White House. John Sidney McCain III and George Walker Bush both represent the third generation of American dynasties. Both were born into positions of privilege against which they rebelled into mediocrity. Both developed an uncanny social intelligence that allowed them to skate by with a minimum of mental exertion. Both struggled with booze and loutish behavior. At each step, with the aid of their fathers' powerful friends, both failed upward. And both shed their skins as Episcopalian members of the Washington elite to build political careers as self-styled, ranch-inhabiting Westerners who pray to Jesus in their wives' evangelical churches.
In one vital respect, however, the comparison is deeply unfair to the current president: George W. Bush was a much better pilot."
After reading about Senator McCain's disastrous career in naval aviation, as a taxpayer, I'd like to bill him for the government property he wrecked. "

Please note that by posting this I do not intend to sway you. If you did not know for whom to vote before yesterday's debate, you are still a moron and an ignoramous today, and you should not vote by any means.
As it says in the odd book: "because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew thee out."
Really, you should've made up your mind already, what's wrong with you?
I can cheerfully accept people who are wrong. People who are wishy-washy, or waffling idiots, excite my bile. I shall pray that they get distracted by blinky things on the way to the voting booth come November.

THE PROBLEM WITH UO FROM AN MO POV

NOTE: This guest-posting was deleted in the interests of peace. The management of this blog has no desire to gratuitously cause hurt or harm - we are very particular about that. I apologize if any of you were upset. The writer of the guest post has been pursuaded to withdraw his text and carefully review it for accuracy, and may submit it later, but seeing as we're only three hours away from shabbes, it may be awhile before I get to read it.
PS. The writer has not apologized for writing what he did - he defends his opinion. But he acknowledges that it was not wise to say it here.

ANTI-SEMITES IN CORPORATE AMERICA
Note: the following is a guest-post from a friend who lives in the South.
================================
About 4 months ago I took a new job. All bright and shiny I arrived to a sales meeting where I found some particularly loud and robust sales guys. Not at all unusual as this is often the type of personality that you find in sales and they are harmless.
At one point they started really bagging in a newly fired President for the North American Operations. To my shock and horror one of the guys said "well what do you expect, he's a Jew! This drew hoots and tsk tsk sounds from the other guys.
Later and not wanting to make a big deal of it (mostly because of fear) I casually asked about the comment to my boss. I think I said, "what's up with the Jew comment?". To which he replied "why, are you a Jew?".
My inclination was to say oh no, of course not, not me. But sometimes valor overcomes discretion even in cowards like myself and so "Yes, I am a non-practicing Jew". The words came out of my mouth before I could think to lie and so I braced myself for the worst.
To my surprise he said something to the effect of sorry and I hope you were not offended. I told him no problem and let's forget about the whole incident. He agreed and I did not forget but decided to let a sleeping dog lie.
However, in the next meeting (one week later) the boss, my boss made a point to tell the whole crew that I'm a Jew. My normally almost translucent skin turned about four shades of Pantone red. The guys all looked at me with this awful maniacal grin and one guy actually said " prove it, drop your pants. Another threw a penny that bounced off my face and said are sure your a Jew? A real Jew would have caught that penny before it hit the ground.
They all laughed at me.
I guess this is the price you pay for living in the south. Can I please come home? I don't recall anybody throwing pennies at me in Portola Valley.

GRITS AND TOFU
