NOTHING BUT SHEER COOKIE PERFECTION

Saturday night spent alone at home, while one's apartment mate is off galavanting about -- possibly a family event with her kin, but I shall not speculate -- is remarkably peaceful. Didn't turn on the teevee, or play any music. The neighbors across the backyard space between here and the next street over weren't partying for a change, and there was scant noise from the main road several houses down.

Which, when you think about it, is remarkable so soon after pay day. Most people spend like mad men and drink themselves into a frenzy when their pockets are hot with fresh salamanders.

Especially the younger crowd.

I don't think there were any sports on the television, as I did not hear any raucous cheering sounds either.

Peaceful. Just me, stuffed animals, and a few books before bed.
Including two dictionaries and The Wind In The Willows.
Oh, and strong coffee plus delicious cookies.

The gallant thing to do when there's a tub of cookies is to carefully weed out the broken ones, so that whoever sees that container next won't be offended by chipped, broken, or crumbled snackipoos.
It's a sacrifice one should be gladly willing to make.

My apartment mate does it; and so do I.

Just basic kindness, really.

Most of the time nowadays she buys the cookies. Years ago I usually bought them, but these days I no longer have much of a sweet tooth. Consequently, if I know that there are cookies in the teevee room, I will NOT add sugar to my hot caffeinated beverage. The contrast with the broken or damaged cookies is better that way.

Stayed up a little past my bed-time, as I had to make another cup of coffee. There were that many damaged cookies!

She may have dropped the tub on the way home from the store.

Or bashed it hard. Several times even.

Deliberately.

Dear Mr. the Hill,

Yet another seminal essay by our teacher! We too agree with many of the puncts stated within (in particular the commentary on baked confectionery), although any minor issues of dispute can be contended for the sake of higher purpose.

By derivation, we see that you have returned from your intermission and have resumed posting poignant musings. We sincerely hope it was enjoyable, as ours was not so much the case, the reason being that the Lanzhou scriptural quotation continues to haunt us. In such the multicultural city as the one in which we reside, we crossed the path of a Musulmaner house of study and, lo and beheld the psook scrawled on a placard!

Moreso befuddling is that we visited many an internet-based ecclesiae of Christian persuasion, but still have yet to find a reference to this same psook.

Because you answered our request so well before, we implore you answer our most pressing question!

A bientôt,

Thirty Day Beer
