THE EDIBLE BITS

One gets the impression from animals on Youtube that birds are more social than some small mammals, rats and dogs possibly excepted. Both of those engage in grooming and sniffing behaviours, whereas some creatures clearly interact with humans because we are a source of food. "Have you" they seem to say, "anything to eat?" And if you don't you might as well bugger off. Whereas many birds desire reactions and input. Parrots of course are notorious in that regard. Hop hop hop, pay attention to me! Squawk! Say something, bald ape!

Crows also seem to need us to do something. If it's just food, well, that's nice, but erm you are boring human. I thought you had tricks. Puzzels? Toys?

Bald Eagles want fish. So do otters. Crows want to irritate the eagle so it loses hold of its fish. Showing that crows may want the irritation as much as the fish. Hop hop hop yank tail feather. Hop hop hop repeat. Eventually the bald eagle flies away in a huff.

Crow cackles and takes the fish. Hops off gleefully. Utters a happy avian "yay".

At least according to Youtube. Always a trustworthy rabbit hole.

Squirrels want our nuts. Nothing else.
We are useless without our nuts.
No nuts, no friendship, human.
Well, that hurts,

There are also weasel, ferret, and honey badger videos. Playful, inquisitive, and anarchic.
Is it difficult to open? Can it break? Does it wrestle? Ooh, pockets!

As I child I liked squirrels. Now that I'm older, rats, weasels, ferrets, and badgers. It's an ongoing process of growth. There is nothing spiritual about it.

Behaviours which in humans would be irritating are often rather adorable in animals.
Please tell your alcoholic brother to stop licking my face.

Bearded dragons stealing socks are also fun.
It's mine, I found it!
