Well, I'm glad that is over. Thanks to the dillwads of the local pro-Israel group plus a cast of thousands, yesterday was possibly the worst Christmas ever. And I'm not even really vested in Christmas, what with being an unlikeable single man and all that jazz, but still.
Worst Hanukah ever, too. I realized that my sympathies lay more with the Hellenists than the Maccabees. Seriously, who wouldn't choose reason and civilization over the rabid screeching of religious puritans and casual murder?
Same goes for their modern day equivalents.
Frankly, both the Christmas crowd and the Maccabeean fanatics can go hump a camel. Several camels.

A CHEREM? FOR ME? I FEEL SO HONOURED!
Apparently I was supposed to call our president all kinds of names and praise Netanyahu's vision and perspicacity after the United States abstained from voting, AND abstained from exercising her veto, on a resolution in the U. N. Security Council. See, that's what everybody else in a local pro-Israel group was doing, and this proved what they had know for more than eight years: Barack Obama was a filthy Muslim communist retard! And an anti-Semite.
Thank G-d for Trump!
Oh dear. I thought it was a neat-o keen way to finally make clear to Bibi that using settlement building to sabotage any prospect of peace, AND humiliate the stupid Americans, was perhaps not the wisest thing to do.
Well, you know, not nice.

Especially because though we tried, numerous times, we could not get that message into his thick head, and he kept playing us for a bunch of freirs.

CRAZIES ON FACEBOOK
Sometime between last Friday and this morning, a person (FL) whom I have known for a decade unfriended me on Facebook. Well dang. Perhaps it was my somewhat irritated responses to the Republican racists whom he also knows -- they share some ideology in common -- or my ire at having to put up with his occasional Muslim-hating rants. Or his snide comments about Oaklanders blocking freeways. Or his passionate defense of the police; all the police.
Over the years I likewise have unfriended people with whom there are points of disagreement. Often it has been because of stupidity, bigotry, and political ideology. During the last Gaza-Israel fracas, I unfriended over a dozen, and when Bibi decided to meddle in United States politics, several more followed.
Republicans stand a very good chance of unfriending.
So do readers of the Jerusalem Post.
And most Vegans.
The recent 'unfriendly' and I have three FeeBeeFs in common. There would have been many more, but unfortunately most members of the pro-Israel side with whom I used to associate have been permanently put on my "do not disturb any further list" in the last seven years.

OH, ARSE!
One of my friends is convinced that I spend too much time obsessing over Israel and Netanyahu, and has harshly called me to task, worried that I am somehow over the bend or lurking under the bridge.
He's Israeli, and might have a point.
On the other hand, maybe he just isn't paying attention very well, since ninety-nine point nine nine percent of my FB likes and comments were pursuant cute animal videos, Hello Kitty, black lives matter, and the usual shiznit to which people react.
Another one, recently de-friended, kept taking my comments elsewhere as an opportunity to disagree with things that other people said about Israel, in a contentious and aggressive fashion, as if responding to me (basically pissing in someone else's backyard), and 'friending' my FB friends expressly in order to do so. To such an extent that I was getting negative feedback from quite a number of people. His lack of nuance and subtlety proved a stumbling block of major proportion, and his passive-aggressive attempts to then turn disagreements which he had created or inflamed into opportunities for attempted humour (and surely we all knew he was just being witty?!?!) diminished any respect I once felt for him.
He likewise reacted badly to my Israel-related content.
His internet-stalker behaviour was all about Israel.
Apparently I was far too negative.
I probably had a screw loose.

JONATHAN POLLARD: IF HE'S YOUR MESSAIAH, YOU HAVE SCREWS LOOSE
This morning, shortly after my first cup of coffee, I made the mistake of reading (again), about Jonathan Pollard. Jonathan Pollard, for those who don't remember, started selling American defense secrets to Israel after failing to get several other countries to take his bait. He and his wife needed to dig themselves out of debt, and that form of prostitution seemed like a winner. Which, indeed, for a while it turned out to be.
Since being caught, he has tried to portray his actions as motivated by the highest virtues, a deep and abiding loyalty to the Jewish people, and a true love of liberty, justice, and the sheer rightness of Israel.
Which to some makes his disregard for what he was obliged and sworn to protect perfectly alright.
Surely his ahavas-yisroel trumps all other considerations?
[Up to his eyebrows in debt due to his life-style, attempting to sell secrets to other countries besides Israel, and disregarding the conditions of his plea-bargain? Pshaw! A mere bagatelle! The man is a chossid!]
Bibi Netanyahu has spent over a decade stridently calling him a saint, and the ultra-right in Israel have made him a hero.
Many Americans -- no doubt sincerely misguided as well as remarkably stupid -- have taken up that cause, and portray his long incarceration as a gross injustice, as well as proof that the American government is rabidly anti-Semitic.
A rational review of his case shows that he has been treated with remarkable leniency given his offense and offensiveness, and that rather than being a hero, he is a deeply flawed and ethically stunted creature.
His scheduled release in November of this year will be celebrated, and many right-thinking Americans and Israelis will wonder how it is that Netanyahu and others so staggeringly disrespect the United States.
Instead of jailing him, we should have hanged him.
Here's some food for thought:
Dual loyalties.
By his actions, he was of monumental benefit to various foreign intelligence services, an asset of immense value. As well as inestimably damaging to the interests of his own nation, an absolute disaster of staggering magnitude to American intelligence and our strategic position. In all ways the perfect storm, the damage from whose sabotage endures to this day.
He was, to put it bluntly, the absolute paradigm of betrayal.
A disaster that is painful to contemplate.
Despicably anti-American.
I find the hero-worship of that man appalling and repellent.
You may not see it that way, which is your right.
Perhaps you have "dual loyalties".
Or no loyalties.
He is America's very own Mordechai Vanunu.
Also a disgusting man, also scum.
But Pollard is worse.

That cannot lessen his loathsomeness, and none of it justifies the perfectly despicable adoration he has received, or the irrational accusations of anti-Semitism hurled at the United States for imprisoning him, OR the insistent and petulant demands for his immediate release through the years.
That support and adoration, however, does justify serious questions about trustworthiness, or the ultimate reliability of our allies and their supporters.

WELCOME HOME, HOW WAS YOUR DAY?
Part of the problem with writing a blog is that you never know what berserk reactions readers will have. It's in public, and you can't choose who sees it. Years ago, when I still posted controversial material, the responses were more predictable -- death threats and insults, particularly when I published recipes for shark fin soup, for instance -- and some of the comments fulsomely agreed with what I had written, but even so, people take offense at the damnedest things.
This morning I bitterly poked fun at the ethically crippled pustules who, despite the generation-long assault on everything right and good by the Republican Party, have jumped ship and swallowed every single lie and calumny that the Republicans have invented, because a foreign politician has been having a temper tantrum.
Frankly, when foreigners spew crap about the United States, my dander gets up. Foreigners by and large haven't a clue about this country, and many of them have simplistic opinions influenced primarily by television shows, Fox news, sleazy politicians in their own countries, ethnic or cultural superiority complexes, and repulsive preconceptions.
Yeah, Americans are all vulgarians with guns.
We're stupid and ignorant, too.

I have shied away from the Iran-nuke issue in recent months, primarily because I knew that several people whom I used to respect have gotten their knickers in a twist, and are presently damning Obama and the democrats in the vilest terms.
The last time I brought it up on Facebook, several people called me names. One of them is still trolling my every Facebook comment to find something objectionable, and is THIS close to being permanently defriended.
Apparently, Obama is a Muslim Jew-hating communist, hand-in-glove with the Mullahs, Ayatullahs, Muslim Brotherhood, Jihadis, and other Free Masons, who wants to destroy the civilized world but especially the United States, take away our guns, bring more Palestinians and Iranians into the country, and declare martial law. We will all be forced to either be gay, or marry gays. He and John Kerry are both completely stupid as well as irredeemably evil, have no brains or balls, and should be tried for treason RIGHT NOW, although on what grounds isn't entirely clear.
They also want you to eat gmos and catch ebola.
Lizard aliens control our government.
The UN will take over.
Frankly, I did not know that we had so many Likudniks in the United States. And how on earth did they get to be the arbiters of American values, loyalties, and foreign policy?
One might almost think that every single one of them entirely agrees with Netanyahu's opinion that Obama is a disobedient house nigger. Certainly they've shown no inclination for cogent analyses, reason, nuance, subtlety, or even temperate statements. Many of them now are firmly in the anti-abortion, anti-woman, anti-gay, Christian creationist, science denying, right-wing gun-nut camp.
We know how they're going to vote next time.
They are going to vote for every sleazy anti-abortion, anti-woman, anti-gay, Christian creationist, science denying, right-wing gun-nut congressperson and local politician there is.

THE DARKER PART OF THE INTERNET
It should go without saying that I love my friends, even the twisted dysfunctional trolls who support Bibi Netanyahu. This wouldn't even come up, save for the fact that over on Facebook, I seem to have gotten into trouble with some of them because I rightly considered Bibi's speechy-weechy last week nothing more than self-serving egomania by a psychopath desperate for re-election, fortuitously combined with the seditious tendencies of a bunch of newly-elected weasels representing the Know Nothing Party.
Saying so, it turns out, was heresy.
Yesterday Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said that Arabs who are disloyal to Israel should have their heads chopped off.

A few years ago, MOK (Member of Knesset) Michael Ben Ari proudly had himself photographed ripping up the New Testament and throwing the shreds in the garbage. Ben Ari, representing the National Union Party (Ha Ihud Ha Leumim), is a follower of Meir Kahane.
In Ben Ari's defense, it wasn't an election year (in Israel), and consequently there was no need to keep American rightwing Christian sentiments in mind. Not that he would anyhow. The insane underbelly of Israel's strongest ally is only important to the Republican Party, and can be counted on to have no memory and no mind in any case.
No need to pander.
I mention all this to point out that one can be pro-Israel without admiring everything about the country, her people, and the gorillas that represent them. Not all the poo that comes out of this baby's arse is golden, some of it is dross.
The statement that we have to support Israel because it's the only democracy in the Middle East is complete nonsense, however. It is the only democracy in that neck of the woods whose voters, on the whole, are reasonably well educated, literate, and multi-facetted in their opinions.

It is also the only country in that neck of the woods to have reasonable people and a diversity of all the things that define civilization. That is to say, a place where there is a great likelihood that those may be found.

CONGRESS APPLAUDS BIBI
Having sworn not to listen to the prime-minister's speech but to read it, at leisure, instead, I did note from several newsreports (i.e.; Facebook postings) that his excellency monumentally inspired our elected representatives. Never before have they heard words of such conviction.
In all their lives, there has not been a moment so important.
We must all unite for the cause.
And a new world awaits us all if we do.
There will be enormous positive reverberations.
It is heartening that for once our congress people are all on one page, unanimous in their approval of a course of action, a call to arms, a statement of import, and a message of resolve.
My correspondents have, helpfully, sent messages that, in the end, convinced me of the rightness.
Along with video clips of the enthusiasm with which congress welcomed Bibi Netanyahu.
The rose, they clapped, they cheered.
A STANDING OVATION!

CRAZY LITTLE HOTHOUSE FLOWERS
This blogger inhabits what is quite likely the most berserk and out-of-touch-with-reality part of the known universe. And I'm not entirely comfortable with that. I feel far too normal to be here.
EXAMPLE ONE: Several people I know are cleansing themselves. No, not scrubbing themselves all over with a washcloth and water, but "cleansing"
I would suggest that these self-indulgent fudge-wits pay for high-colonics, but then they might assume that I am one of them, and tell me more about their ridiculous and medically unsound dietary weirdness. One of them already shared the benefits of almond milk upon the bowels, which was something that I really did not want to hear.
He was smoking a cigar at the time.
He's a nice man, but he's nuts.
Of course he lives in Marin.
There used to be an artspace on Pacific Avenue which advertised rectal hydration by appointment only, but they've closed down, and I suspect that they moved to Marin. Where business is probably booming.
EXAMPLE TWO: An acquaintance got another tattoo. She already has several. Each one celebrates a life-achievement. Her high school graduation. A girl scout badge (right behind the knee). Her first orgasm, with date. Learning how to make soy-milk. And, finally, karmically changing her astrological alignment.
That last one is mighty odd. No, I have no clue how it is done.
And I don't think it's either possible, or ever necessary.
EXAMPLE THREE: An otherwise semi-rational Jewish person of my acquaintance recently cited Pamela Geller in support of Bibi Netanyahu, and against Obama. She's a liberal, and I thought she was capable of researching her sources, verifying data, taking biases into account, and not giving credence to the crackpot fringe.
Pamela Geller, it will be remembered, beslimes herself on the internet by writing Atlas Shrugs, and is widely acknowledged to be neck-and-neck with Debbie Shlussel for most rabid hate-filled insane pustule on the ultra-right. Please note that shrill harpy Caroline Glick, columnist for notorious spam-site 'The Jerusalem Post', and soggy-pantied propagandist for Netanyahu, praises Pamela Geller.
Yes, I thoroughly enjoyed writing those last two sentences.

OBAMA CAUSES RECORD-BREAKING COLD WAVE!
After a long day in Marin County babysitting cigar-aficionados, it is exceedingly good to be back in San Francisco. Civilization, there's nothing like it. Getting my sanity back right now with a steaming cup of coffee and tea mixed together, with sweetened condensed milk. It's a very Hong Kong affectation, but the double whammy of caffeine suits me. Had enough nicotine during the day to stave off boredom, although when Alice came by to pick up a pipe-lighter (Xikar Resource, life-time warranty), that was as good as a double cappuccino and an Oliva Series V Maduro combined. And a breathe of fresh air.
There are a few more women cigar smokers than pipe smokers. It was a woman who introduced me to Oliva cigars. Thank you, Robin.
Perhaps one day you'll meet Alice.
She's very nice.
Upon returning home, the first thing I do is greet my apartment mate, who is in her room surrounded by furry critters, reading comic books and lamenting that she misses her boy friend with whom she broke up nearly two months ago. For the umpteenth time.
Then I open my e-mail. Which convinces me that Marin ain't half bad. Some people there are not too disconnected from reality.

One of my former Facebook friends, whom I thought I was clear of last summer when I removed him because his posts during the fracas between Israel and Hamas suggested either that the U.S. Administration was actively aiding and abetting the overlords of the strip, OR that the only thing that needed doing to solve the Middle-East's problems once and for-all would be nuking Gaza, the West Bank, Cairo, and Tehran, recently sent me a screed that convinces me that he's voting Republican, more than anything else he's ever written.
[There have been numerous opportunities to weed out the nut sacks on Facebook over the past few years; at this point only two or three of them remain. They are mostly quiescent.]
He states that the reason why it is freezing where he is, and warm sunny weather where I am, is because the libtards running the country have been employing pagan rituals to control the weather.
It's beastly cold all over the Republican part of the United States.

NETANYAHU IS NOT A RACIST
As usual on Sunday I got to listen to the mis-informed and downright crackpot political opinions of middle-aged men in Marin. Like many of the people in that part of the world, they are frightfully entitled, but unlike most denizens of Marin they are venomously opposed to the government.
It's like they feel that they are honorary Koch brothers.
I should point out that most of the regulars (about a dozen people) are rather not-unlikable people, given to a certain level of smarts and insight, despite their shocking ignorance and ideological depravities.
They honestly do not believe that they are idiots.
Or have a racist bone in their bodies.
They do, however, worship the ground that Sarah Palin and the other Republican luminaries walk upon, thus unwittingly proving that they are both utterly insane, and more than borderline seditious.
If you consider what Republicans do.
GOP lawmakers not only have no hesitation about sabotaging American foreign policy, they’re willing to partner with a foreign government to do so.
Congress is not entitled to speak for the country on foreign policy issues. That is strictly the purview of the executive branch, NOT treasonous bottomfeeders chosen by big corporations to represent the stupid parts of the country.
Of course, it isn't surprising that Netanyahu accepted the invitation; the man has a reputation for backstabbing opportunism a mile long, and has done more to boost himself than any other Israeli politician in recent memory.
Not having been able to cow Obama into obedience, he satisfies his frustration by pandering to the nutzoid fringes, seeing that there is indeed common cause; both he and they oppose Obama. It's almost as if the chairman of Likud and the howling trailerparkers of the Teaparty are saying "why, the NERVE of that darky! How DARE he talk back!"
There is no evidence whatsoever that Netanyahu is a racist.
The same cannot be said for the leaders of the GOP.
Nor much of the Teaparty movement.
And a few Marinites.

NETANYAHU'S STRIDENT GADFLY GLICK
A friend drew my attention to a column by Caroline Glick, hack for the Jerusalem Post, in this week's Jewish World Review.
It is, alas, as typical a pile of Glick as you can get.
Caroline Glick has joined the chorus yelling that the Democrats in Washington are all a bunch of hatefilled anti-Semitic pussies.
" In the midst of the Obama administration's assault on Israel..."

Last month's letter to Clinton was much more circumscribed. It focused solely on ending the Obama administration's very public assault on Israel and ignored the nature of that assault. This week Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat visited Washington. Congressmen Eric Cantor and Peter Roskam — the Republican co-chairmen of the House's Israel caucus — held a public event with Barkat where they voiced strong support for Israel's right to build in Jerusalem without restrictions.

Not content with being snippy about perceived slights, she then continues her tirade by accusing American Jews of partisan blindness.

For decades, Israelis have happily slandered American Jews, while regularly coming over here to fress with the American Jewish machers.
Maybe Caroline Glick should think twice before attempting so transparent a smear on someone who is the most important macher at this time.
[The anti-Semites and Euries have also made a big deal of Lee Rosenberg's connection to Obama. According to them, it is absolute proof that the Jews control the White House. Amazing how it means different unpleasant things to different kinds of Obama-haters.]

What is remarkable is that even people who loathe Netanyahu have stilled their sniping at him out of a passionate hatred of Obama.
If Israelis really want our support, perhaps they should stop calling us and our leaders names and making us out for a bunch of patsies to be bled regularly for money by their questionable charities.
It would also do no harm if they showed some rectitude, rather than being constantly embroiled in corruption scandals, official malfeasance, as well as a notorious rape case - which, by the way, illustrates abundantly the sexism of many Israelis; a common middle-eastern defect.
Frankly, I find Caroline Glick’s attack on AIPAC distasteful.
Her strident hysteria of several years (the sky is falling, the sky is falling) is a matter of tiresome record.
Nor should she cut Netanyahu so much slack. Netanyahu is probably the worst thing to have happened for Israeli-U.S. relations in several years, besides being in many ways a slick conman but a lousy diplomat.
[Her support for Netanyahu against Obama is, in fact, understandable - she worked for Bibi when he was prime minister in the nineties. In the Israeli political world, that connection counts for more than blood ties.]
Caroline Glick's narrowness of vision is as evident as her biases; she needs to get her head out of the gutter of Yerushalmi politics and her mental crotch out of Tea-party laps.

My support for Israel is based on certain concomitancies of purpose, ideals, and culture, many key affinities, and a sense of justice. It is NOT based on my greatly liking Israel or other nations, nor was it lessened when that dunce from Texas and his good ole boy party were in power. I do not hold it against Israel that many of her supporters in the United States are inbred Jed; that situation is unfortunate, and a grave potential liability.
It would be better if both Americans and Israelis could be more bipartisan, but that, evidently, is too much to hope for.
And, for the record, if I were Israeli I would vote for Likud. Even with Netanyahu.

NETANYAHU ANSWERS BRITISH INTERVIEWER - AGAIN!
An e-mail going around, and being quoted on several blogs, has Benyamin Netanyahu answering a question on British Television very well indeed.
The problem is that the interview, if it ever even took place, was in 2006. The question did not deal with Palestinians fatalities in Gaza in 2009, as is being quoted, but Lebanese fatalities a little bit further north, in 2006.

Bibi's answer is quite to the point. And very pointed.

I am not entirely surprised that the material above is being spammed forward now. It is good stuff. Apposite, and appropriate. But it is not germane or timely.
