This man is no eccentric, but represents the voice of the Muslim Brotherhood and the Egyptian people. And as such, he represents the democratic forces that many right-thinking people are currently having orgasms over.
According to many, the Muslim Brotherhood are religious moderates and conservative in their views.
Which is like describing the Spanish Inquisition as a social welfare organization.
It appears to this blogger that the progressives are delighted each time the voice of barbarism is raised, provided that voice screams invective at either America or Israel. That, more than anything else, pleases them, and they will gladly ignore any psychopathies displayed - provided they can cheer the baying hounds from the sidelines.
A democracy of rabid dogs is hardly true democracy. Even if the entire pack is barking.

Wait and see. That's all we can do. The protests weren't started by the MB, but of course they are best positioned to take over when a "new" leadership is put in place.
For all our sakes, this would be a perfect time for all the secular, modernist, ex-pat Egyptians to go home and take over.
Right on. Hizbullah and Hamas, and now the Muslim Brotherhood, have cynically exploited the notion of free elections and representational democracy by getting their parties into power with a view toward then stifling human rights and pluralism.
